Who doesn’t visit Japan and immediately become obsessed with the adorable cars on Japanese expressways? Even President Trump, who is being heavily scrutinized for his anti-immigration rhetoric, has a soft heart for something. That something just so happens to be Japan’s Kei cars, the smallest vehicles produced in Japan. These fuel-efficient and affordable vehicles are great for cities but have never seen U.S. roads before. Now, Trump is giving the green light in Washington, DC so that the production of Kei cars can start in the U.S.
President Trump recently returned from Asia and the information he brought back is surprising, to say the least. According to @hondaprojason, Trump gave Honda the green light to produce Kei cars and trucks. Trump explains, “They have a very small car” similar to the Beetle produced by Volkswagen. He goes on to excitedly explain, “They’re very small; they’re really cute. And I said, how would that do in this country? Everyone seems to think good, but you’re not allowed to build them.”
Well, that wasn’t going to fly with Trump, who thinks these vehicles are just dear. He decided to “authorize the secretary to immediately approve the production of those cars.” He believes that car companies will succeed in producing and selling these vehicles to U.S. consumers after a long period of being unable to do so within the states. This could reasonably be groundbreaking in the transportation industry. It allows Honda, Toyota, and other Japanese automakers to sell to U.S. consumers, which opens new avenues for them economically. Trump happily announced to social media, “I have just approved TINY CARS to be built in America!”
On top of that, these vehicles are incredibly fuel-efficient. As Trump mentioned in his speech, “They can be propelled by gasoline, electric, or hybrid.” He goes on to say, “These cars of the very near future are inexpensive, safe, fuel efficient and, quite simply, AMAZING!!! START BUILDING THEM NOW!” Time will tell when we’ll start seeing Kei cars here in America and the positive impact they could have on American roadways. As one commenter shared, “Finally a Trump decision I can get behind.” I’d have to strongly agree with that.
