Dynamaxing is available in Pokemon Go, and everyone is supersizing their Pokemon in anticipation of all-new battles. Once you’ve reached Level 13, you’ll be able to complete the Special Research task titled “To The Max!” It’ll teach you everything you need to know about encountering and catching Dynamax Pokemon yourself; you’ll get to experience Max Battles for the first time in the app.

In September of 2024, certain Pokemon were involved in one-star Max Battles during a limited event that has since concluded. These Pokemon include:

  • Bulbasaur.
  • Charmander.
  • Squirtle.
  • Skwovet.
  • Wooloo.

How Do Pokemon Dynamax in Pokemon Go?

To Dynamax your Pokemon while involved in Max Battles, you’ll need Max Particles. Max Particles enable the transformation while in battle. You can find them pretty easily while playing the game via Power Spots and in the in-game shop. But wait, Power Spots are also a new addition to the game while the event lasts.

These Power Spots can be spotted everywhere and look like magenta-colored streams of light coming down from silver discs (at least to me, anyway). These spots are what emit Max Particles and if you’re lucky, are also places where you can encounter Dynamax Pokemon.

As long as you have one Dynamax Pokemon, you can participate in Max Battles at select Power Spots. Make sure you’re collecting Max Particles because each battle requires you to have a set amount before jumping in. These battles are incredibly similar to regular battles with the difference being that every attack will fill up the Dynamax meter at the top of the screen. Once full, your Pokemon will Dynamax for a total of three turns. You’ll also have a chance at capturing the Power Spot Boss after you have successfully defeated it!

Once the battle has ended and you’ve captured the Pokemon, you’ll be heavily rewarded with Rare Candies, XP, and Premier Balls. To make things more interesting, you can leave one of your Pokemon at a Power Spot for additional rewards. However, you’ll only earn those rewards once the Pokemon has been defeated and sent back to you. The Pokemon you leave at these Spots help give other Trainers challenging the Spot additional damage bonuses.
