Based on info found by dataminers and revealed by Infinity Ward itself, there are plenty of details on the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Season 3 updates. Indeed, following the recent trailer, we have confirmation of past leaks. This article has recently been updated with everything we know so far about MW2 and Warzone 2 Season 3. Let’s dive in!
The developers at Activision always try to keep the Call of Duty games fresh with new content. This means after the new game gets released, we always see some DLCs and updates to pull the players back into the game.
Now, while the publishers announce the changes a few days before the release, some data miners reveal the content before the official announcement. Nonetheless, this didn’t happen for Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2‘s first two seasons, but it seems like season 3 is different. Besides, the new trailer for Warzone 2 Season 3 has much further information about a new weapon, two new operators, and many game modes coming to Warzone 2 and MW2 that we are about to cover.
What’s in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Season 3 Roadmap?
Based on the newly released trailer and the leaks by MWIINTEL and other data miners on Twitter and Reddit, now we know what Infinity Ward’s plan for Warzone 2 and MW2 season 3 is.
The new season will include new operators, limited-time events, new weapons, DMZ changes, and probably the third episode of Atomgrad Raid story missions. There will also be a new sniper rifle added to the game, with some changes to the Ricochet anti-cheat system.
New Operators – Alex and Valeria Return in Warzone 2 Season 3!
According to data miners Task Force Leakers 141 and MWIINTEL, we will meet Valeria, Alex, and Alejandro again in the season 3 update. The new trailer for season 3 officially confirms the return of Alejandro and Valeria, while the presence of Alex is yet to be Affirmed.
Now we have met Valeria in the story missions of Modern Warfare 2, and Alejandro is her arc nemesis as a Mexican Special Forces commander. This makes sense if the developers add these two characters with a new line of the story to Warzone 2 Season 3. But for Alex, this is like repeating history.
Infinity Ward added Alex as an active operator in Warzone 1 Season 3 update nearly three years ago. And now he’s going to be a part of Warzone 2 Season 3. Last time we saw this character was in the Raid Episode 2 ending cutscene, and we will probably see more of him in the next episode.
New Returning Call of Duty Weapons
Fans of the Call of Duty franchise are used to hearing the names of some famous weapons in the game. For example, the AK-47 has many variants in every Modern Warfare game.
While in Warzone 2 and MW2 we don’t see the real-life names of different weapons in the game, at least we know which one is which. This means that the Kastov platform is the AK with a changed name.
That being said, Warzone 2 Season 3 update brings another weapon with an unknown name but a known identity. The famous Intervention is returning to the loudouts, and we hope to see some changes on this gun to make it more valuable than it was in the original MW2.
Plus, there will be two new weapons beside the Intervention sniper rifle. There’s a mystery pistol on the roadmap, and an assault rifle called “Cronen Squall”.
New FJX Sniper Rifle in Warzone 2 Season 3 Can Bring Back The One-Shot Trend
In the newly released teaser for MW2 and Warzone 2 season 3 update, you can see the FJX Imperium at the hands of Alejandro Vargas. Some Call of Duty content creators and streamers could get their hands on this weapon on limited access gameplay. But adding a new sniper rifle might mean a new meta.
In the past two seasons of Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2, many players have asked the developers to bring justice to the sniper rifles. A 50-Cal sniper rifle should be killing an enemy when shot in the head! It is not confirmed yet, but it seems like the FJX Imperium is here to do the job.
In fact, this sniper rifle is a remake of what we knew as Intervention in the original Modern Warfare 2. The weapon was so popular back then and guaranteed a one-shot kill. We will see this powerful rifle in the Warzone 2 and MW2 season 3 battle pass, or it’ll be added as a seasonal event with challenges to complete.
DMZ Changes in MW2 & Warzone 2 Season 3
As far as DMZ goes, it is all about doing missions. You have four factions in this mode with five tiers of missions. Once you complete any of them, you get some rewards like double XP tokens, operator skins, and weapon blueprints.
This is the way DMZ works right now in the Beta status, but this is set to change. For the Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 Season 3 update, it seems like there will be some changes to the metrics of this game mode.
Data miners have revealed a new option in the DMZ mode called the “Faction Reputation.” Now, this is actually a fresh leak and might change by the developers before the release of the season 3 update. But faction reputation might mean that you need to earn reputation instead of tiers to unlock some missions.
There might also be a way that you could only do a certain faction’s missions. No specific data is currently available about this new change in Warzone 2 DMZ mode in season 3. There are also no new details in Warzone 2 Season 3 trailer.
Plunder Returns in Warzone 2 Season 3
This one has been a hot topic since the release of Call of Duty: Warzone 2, and it seems like it’s going to happen in Season 3. The addition of plunder is something that many fans are currently asking the developers to do.
Plunder is a game mode in which killing doesn’t count as a point toward victory, but gathering cash does! This mode has infinite redeployment time in Warzone, allowing players to play freely without worrying about elimination.
In fact, players can use this mode as a free way to upgrade their weapons and rank up in the battle pass. But as of right now, we know that this mode is in the roadmap of Warzone 2 Season 3. The new trailer for season 3 officially confirms the addition of plunder to Warzone 2 in season 3, though it’s not detailed on which map will have this mode.
Al-Mazrah Resurgence Mode
Resurgence mode was introduced in Warzone 1 back in 2020. In this mode, you will deploy on a map like the standard battle royal. However, you can repeatedly redeploy until at least one of your teammates lives.
The resurgence mode is usually played in the smaller tactical maps. Season 2 of Warzone 2 introduced one named “Ashika Island”, and the resurgence mode came with it. But now, with Warzone 2 season 3 trailer, we know that this mode will also come to Al-Mazrah.
The plan for bringing the resurgence to Al-Mazrah will probably won’t be making the map smaller by gas, like the one we see in mini-royal mode. This isn’t the first time the developers have brought resurgence mode to the main map, only to limit it to a smaller section. The same tactics were also deployed in Verdansk and Caldera back in Warzone 1. But this time around, the name of the mode is massive resurgence, and that means we might see a 150 players in the resurgence mode of Al-Mazrah!
Warzone 2 Ranked Play in Season 3
Now this one is huge! Since the beginning of Call of Duty: Warzone in 2020, many players have asked to add ranked play. This makes the players grind to reach higher ranks and differentiates them to play with people on their skill level.
The ranked play is already a part of Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer modes, and now it is officially confirmed to be a part of the season 3 update. It’s not mentioned if it gets added as soon as the season begins or if it will be a part of season 3 reloaded, but the confirmation is definitely a thing.
It’s kind of good to know that last year when the details of Warzone 1 season 3 got leaked, there were details on the addition of ranked play for the battle royal mode. Now it seems like that plan was just canceled to be a part of Warzone 2’s first-year roadmap.
MW2 Raid Episode 3
Raid episodes are becoming a good way for Infinity Ward to continue Modern Warfare‘s story. These specific Co-Op missions are about the assignments of Task Force 141 as they try to uncover more secrets in Urzikestan.
Each Raid has a cinematic cutscene, and so far, we have followed the story to the point of Echo 3-1, Alex Keller’s return. But will there be more episodes about the Modern Warfare 2 story? Absolutely!
Take all of these leaked contents with a grain of salt, but adding the next Raid episode is sort of inevitable. The data that Captain Price, Gas, and Farrah have extracted is only the story’s beginning. Since there has been a link to Black Ops Cold War in Raid episode 2 as well, we might see more relation to Perseus and Makarov as a villain in the subsequent Atomgrad Raid missions. Besides, there will also be a new Blackcell in Warzone 2 season 3 which we’ll dive in next.
What is The Blackcell in Warzone 2 and MW2 Season 3?
Blackcell is something that is shown at the end of the Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 season 3 trailers. It’s only written Blackcell, with no further explanation on whether it’s a new mode, a new faction for the DMZ, or anything else.
However, according to the Inkslasher, there’s a connection between Blackcell and the season 2 battle pass. In the image above, you can see that in the top left corner, there’s a logo with BCELL written beside it. This is probably Blackcell, and it might mean that in the next season, it has to do something within the game’s battle pass, story, or any other content.
The best guess for Blackcell is through the story. In fact, the heavily armored Shadow Company soldiers could be recruited to be a part of a new elite team. We know that General Shepherd is still on the scene and alive, so Blackcell could be his way of fighting off Task Force 141 and any other enemy standing in his way.
Blackcell will probably be added to the DMZ mode as a new faction. We had the addition of the Crown faction with new and elite tasks in season 2. And Warzone 2 season 3 update might just add Blackcell as a faction to do missions for.
New Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Modes and Maps
In the new Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 season 3 trailer, we can see that new Multiplayer maps have been confirmed. One of these confirmed maps is Pelayo’s Lighthouse. This map is a remake of the State from the original Modern Warfare 2, but other new maps will be coming in season 3.
Besides, two new modes are confirmed for this season, one being the Gun Fight and Cranked the other. Gun Fight has been in the previous Call of Duty games as well. In this mode, you will be playing multiplayer, and with each kill, you will get a new weapon to fight with. This is while in Cranked mode, you get a speed boost with each kill, plus a bomb will be attached to you so that you have to kill more to buy yourself time!
Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 Season 3 do not have an official release date yet. But you can expect the new season to begin on April 12th when the season 2 battle pass ends.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 are available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
