Wuthering Waves is the new game about to hit the market with which Kuro Games wants to rival HoYoverse titles, such as Genshin Impact or the upcoming Zenless Zone Zero. With so many gacha games out there, some people might be skeptical about Wuthering Waves. Does it have what it takes to dethrone HoYoverse? Will it have fleeting fame like Tower of Fantasy, or will it become one for the ages? While that’s still uncertain, there are a few other things that we know about this game, and we’ve listed them here.
What Kind of Game is Wuthering Waves?
Wuthering Waves is a free-to-play action-RPG open world set in a post-apocalyptic environment due to a catastrophe that nearly wiped out all life on the planet. The few remaining people try to rebuild their planet while adapting and keeping the new monsters brought by the calamity at bay. In the game, we assume the role of Rover, who you can choose to be male or female, and who must recover their memory by exploring this new and strange place.
When Does It Come Out?
Through official social media, the company announced that the release date for Wuthering Waves in the West will be May 22, 2023. Many players had the opportunity to be part of the closed beta tests, and so far, the reactions have been extremely positive.
What Platforms Will It Be Available On?
During its launch, Wuthering Waves will be available for PC via its own launcher and from the Epic Store. It will also be accessible for Android and iOS mobile devices. At the moment, Kuro Games made public that they intend to bring their game to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in the future, but there is no clear date yet.
Is It a Gacha?
Yes, Wuthering Waves is a gacha game with characters as weapons, 5-star, and 4-stars of rarity. Some of them already had their drip marketing, or Resonator Showcases, and reels in their social networks. There will be different banners, such as promotional and standard banners, each one for character and weapons. HoYoverse players should find the system familiar, as it takes a lot of inspiration from Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact.
Is it Pay-to-Win?
Kuro Games designed this new game to be free-to-play, so you can enjoy it without investing any money. However, the monetisation system is similar to HoYoverse; you can buy Oscillate Corals and Afterglow Corals to pull for Resonators or weapons in the store. There is also the Lustrous Tide, a premium currency similar to Crystal in Genshin, and the Echos, creatures that give boosts. You can also buy the Battle Pass to get better rewards as you level up.
How Many Characters Are Already Confirmed?
So far, on the official website, 14 characters, or Resonators, are confirmed for Wuthering Waves. Until now, there is Rover (male or female), 11 from Huang Long, two from Black Shores, and one more from another faction or zone. It is yet to be known if they will be among all the banners at the beginning or already have a promotional and permanent banners schedule.
How to Pre-register for Wuthering Waves
The pre-register is done directly on the official Wuthering Waves website by logging in with the email address you used to create your account. The pre-register helps to achieve the goal of registered users, and for every certain milestone, Kuro Games unlocks certain rewards. These rewards range from Coral to various materials, which will arrive on the release date directly to the in-game mailbox. So far, the rewards are:
- 5 Million – Shell Credits x80,000 and Rangers’ Series Weapon of Choice x1
- 10 Million– Advanced Resonance Potion x10
- 15 Million – Astrite x200
- 20 Million – Sigil: En Route x1
- 30 Million – Lustrous Tide x20
What Languages Does It Support?
For now, these languages appear on the official Epic Store page, both for audio and text in this form:
- Audio: English, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, and Korean.
- Text: English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Japanese, Korean, French, German, and Spanish (Spain).
However, during the Close Beta II, the audio for the voices was only available in Chinese.
Kuro Games has many more surprises for the release date of Wuthering Waves, starting with the story they have prepared. After much waiting, we can begin the countdown for this new game. We are eager to see if Wuthering Waves causes actual waves in the gacha market or just a few ripples and stays quiet for a while. I hope for the former because, as an avid gacha fan, I can’t get enough of them.
