Demons are coming back next spring. Director Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground) has tweeted the first image of Evil Dead Rise with a look at a Deadite. The Warner Bros. and New Line film is the first film since 2013’s reboot and the last installment since the series Ash vs. Evil Dead. Cronin posted the image on Twitter and teased audiences that the film will “make your eyes bleed.”
The image is the first step to expanding the universe with Evil Dead Rise. Like the reboot and series that Bruce Campbell led, it will introduce new characters who will have to survive a gory adventure. It will follow two sisters, Beth and Ellie, who meet up in Ellie’s Los Angeles apartment with her three children. The sisters discover a spooky book with a face that unleashes possessed demons. Now, they must fight to survive.

Happy Halloween dear horror hounds of the world! Here is the first look at my new movie, coming exclusively to theatres on April 21st 2023. #EvilDeadRise is gonna make your eyes bleed. pic.twitter.com/xIR7mrQf39

The new cast of the film to carry the torch will include Alyssa Sutherland (Vikings), Lily Sullivan (Barkskins), Nell Fisher (Northspur), Morgan Davies (The End), Jayden Daniels (Head High), Gabrielle Echols (Reminiscence), and Billy Reynolds-McCarthy (Shortland Street).
Robert Tapert produces with Sam Raimi, and Campbell executive produce and are reportedly highly involved with the film. Romel Adam, Macdara Kelleher, and John Keville also executive produce. Moira Grant will produce. Campbell will not reprise his role as Ash Williams. Campbell has put the chainsaw and shotgun away as he cited physical limitations at 64 years old. After 40 years, he was able to solidify his legacy in horror between the three films and canceled series.
Not much else is known about the film. With Raimi, Campbell, and Tapert attached, it is likely to be on the more comedic side of its spookiness, like the original films and series, unlike the more horror-focused reboot. As that image of the Deadite holds fans over, Evil Dead Rise will release on April 21, 2023 for HBO Max.
