‘Karen’ neighbors — little needs to be said on how obnoxious it is to live within the vicinity of these people. Unfortunately, a family moving into a new neighborhood in Pennsylvania got the worst of the bunch when it comes to bothersome next-door acquaintances. Not even a week after they moved in, the neighbor called the cops on them, claiming they were “cooking drugs.”
Even the police officer knew the woman, saying that he’s “dealt with this neighbor several times in the past.” It wasn’t until the wild Karen became aggressively agitated that the new family became concerned. It began with hostile interactions, to her taking photos of their cars and even threatening that she’d call Child Services on their young daughter. When asked why she was being so obnoxious, her response was, “You know why, you’re druggies.”
The New Family Needs to Prepare for the Worst with This Karen neighbor
Worried that the Karen might cause more trouble with his family, the husband contacted the non-emergency line for the local police department. The officer who answered said they dealt with the woman “dozens of times” and that “she has some obvious mental health problems.” The deputy suggested that if this behavior continues, the family should consider filing harassment charges. The landlord was, unfortunately, of little help, as he claimed this was a new property he was managing for the first time.
Trying to get a grasp on what to do, the husband reached out to Reddit’s r/legaladvice to get an idea on how to deal with this “likely mentally ill neighbor.” We can probably all agree with the top-upvoted commenter’s first sentence: “It sounds miserable.” That said, the Karen has yet to do anything technically illegal, so law enforcement can only step in if she commits an actual crime. “In the meantime, you could contact a lawyer,” the Redditor suggests. “A strongly worded cease-and-desist letter might work. But if she’s totally nuts, who knows?“

Other people were concerned that CPS might get involved if the neighbor does end up fabricating stories to ruin the family’s lives. Several recommend installing numerous cameras to monitor any potential malicious activity the Karen might attempt. Keeping a log of all incidents and interactions with the neighbor would also be of great help, come the time police get involved and evidence is required.
Whatever the case, no family deserves to have an evil or deranged neighbor trying to ruin their lives. Hopefully, the woman will be rehomed soon, or her own family will take her away to be cared for, considering her questionable mental health.
