Evo Japan 2024 kicked off on April 27 and ran through to April 29, today, and has just concluded. The event was jam-packed with nail-biters for multiple fighting games where some of the best players in the world made their way to Japan to prove their mettle. We got to watch the highest level of competition for games like Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Guilty Gear Strive, Granblue Fantasy Versus, The King of Fighters 15, and many more. Below is a roundup of all the competitions that took place in Evo Japan 2024, along with the hype reveals as well.
The PlayStation-hosted event wasn’t limited to recent games. Not only did it include old games like Street Fighter 3 Third Strike, but it also had side tournaments for games like Darkstalkers, Virtua Fighter 3tb, Persona 4: Arena Ultimax, and Skullgirls.
Evo Japan 2024 Character & Fighting Game Reveals
Evo Japan had some exciting reveals for many games, including Street Fighter 6, Fatal Fury, and more. Here are some of the most notable reveals from the show:
Street Fighter 6 – Akuma
Akuma has finally made his debut in Street Fighter 6 in all his Satsui No Hado glory. We saw a teaser trailer a few weeks ago that showed Akuma’s new look, but we didn’t see any gameplay back then.
That has changed now with his new gameplay trailer that shows Akuma rocking his new white hair, and he’s as menacing as ever. His fighting style and kit have remained mostly familiar, but that coupled with the deep and thorough Drive System of Street Fighter 6 will probably make him one of the strongest characters in the game. Akuma joins the cast on 22 May, along with his classic costume.
Fatal Fury City of the Wolves – Marco Rodrigues
Fans not only got to play the upcoming installment of Fatal Fury on the event floor, but also got a new gameplay trailer for a returning character, the Karate master, Marco Rodrigues.
He will look familiar who played any of the past Fatal Fury games, or to anyone who has seen Takuma from The King of Fighters series. Fatal Fury City of the Wolves also got a release window of 2025.
Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact Multiple Characters Revealed
A new fighting game on one of the most famous anime (and manga) series of all time, Hunter x Hunter took the show by storm after revealing the game’s character select screen and some gameplay as well.
Instead of a slower-paced game like Street Fighter 6 or Tekken 8, Hunter x Hunter: Nen Impact is a 2d fighting that takes a lot of inspiration from games like Marvel vs Capcom 3. That shouldn’t come as a surprise as it is being developed by Eighting. From the limited gameplay, we got to see through the people who were playing it on the show floor, it seems it will be just the thing to fill the void of Marvel vs Capcom 4.
Guilty Gear Strive Season 3 Slayer Trailer
Arc System Works finally revealed a gameplay trailer for the upcoming fighter for Season 3 of Guilty Gear Strive, Slayer. The monocle-wearing vampire looks better than ever and will join the roster in May.

Unfortunately for fans, the legend Knee got knocked out at 25th place, and the victor was Chikurin. Another reason Tekken 8 fans are disappointed is because a lot of great players like Arslan Ash were unable to make it to the tournament due to Japanese restrictions.

The Evo Japan 2024 show was filled with competition that put everyone on the edge of their seats and reveals that have reignited interest in many of the biggest fighting game franchises. Ever since Sony’s acquisition of Evo, the quality of the event has skyrocketed, along with its production value. Now the wait begins for the international Evo 2024 that will take place sometime in July 2024 in Las Vegas, and will bring even better competition, and hopefully, even more video game reveals as well.
