Now that Evolve has… evolved into the free to play Evolve: Stage 2, it has surged in popularity on the Steam charts. It lately has settled in around the number ten spot. With the surge in popularity, developer Turtle Rock surely wants to keep the interest piqued. Enter a new take on the Trapper class: Electro Griffin!

It’s a bit difficult to make sense of the release announcement, but it sounds like Electro Griffin is a fictional character played by an actor named Roger Brown. His latest movie (for which the movie poster below is an advertisement) was a terrible flop, so he decided to go… hunt monsters? Whatever.

Futuristic ninjas are the worst.

At least Electro Griffin brings some color to the bleak world of Evolve: Stage 2. He is essentially a retooled version of the trapper Griffin but decked out in 80s neon. He still has the sound spikes and planet scanner native to his class, but he brings a few 80s themed weapons to the show as well.

First up for Electro Griffin is his new take on the SMG: The Laser Storm. This laser SMG damages and slows the monster, and Electro Griffin can also move at full speed while firing it. His other specialty weapon is called The Final Lockdown; it is a short range harpoon that slowly damages the monster as long as it is connected to them. Prepare to scream like Joey Tempest whenever it finds its mark.

Joey Tempest is the lead singer of the band Europe. It's 'The Final Lockdown." Get it?

Electro Griffin is available now in Evolve: Stage 2. He will take keys to unlock unless you are a Founder, in which case he is already yours. Tease out your hair and set your guitars to shred.

Have you been enjoying Evolve: Stage 2 since it became free to play? Excited for this 80s-nostalgia trapper? Let us know in the comments below.
