Eyewitness Anita Joy’s account of General Hospital star Johnny Wactor’s last moments before death is sending ripples through the media. On Sunday, news broke that Johnny, the actor who played Brando Corbin on General Hospital, died from a gunshot wound after an encounter with robbers. His mom, Scarlett, confirmed to news outlets that the actor passed away in the early hours of Saturday, May 25, in the presence of a coworker. The said colleague, who witnessed the murder, has now poured out her heart on social media, hoping to bring Johnny Wactor’s killers to book.
The co-worker recounted how she and Johnny Wactor rounded up their bartending shifts together at a club in downtown Los Angeles just before his horrific last moments. Still in shock from the incident, Anita admittedly had to take some time to recollect herself before sharing her side of the story, she explained via caption. She continued her opening statement,
“I was with Johnny in his last moments and I’m here to be his voice after such unimaginable events. He was killed senselessly by a coward who reacted without care of the gorgeous life he was taking. So I’m angry, I’m sad and I’m all of the feelings at once… but above all, I am here for Johnny’s justice.”
Anita Joy Recounts Johnny Wactor’s Final Moment
Anita Joy recalled working side by side with Johnny Wactor, her friend of eight years, completing their shifts and then strolling to their cars together. Upon reaching the park, they saw the three men attempting to swipe the catalytic converter of the actor’s car. Unaware of their motives at first, the duo cautiously approached them, thinking the car was being towed.
The co-worker explained that Johnny kept his cool throughout the encounter, letting the thieves know the car belonged to him. Sadly, despite having his arms open to the sides the whole time, one of the armed men shot him. Anita recalled how Johnny bravely protected her, standing between her and the person who shot him. Recounting those final moments with Johnny Wactor before succumbing to his injury, she divulged,
“As I heard the shot ring into the night, he forcefully tumbled back into my arms and as I grabbed for him, I shouted, ‘Hunny you ok?!’ And he only responded, ‘Nope! Shot!’ “
In her account of Johnny Wactor’s final moments, Anita Joy pointed out how the General Hospital star did not give in to death without a fight. After sustaining the gunshot wound, he toppled onto the street, and she had to “put her legs under him to hold his body up.” At the same time, she kept screaming for help while urging the actor to “stay with me.” Eventually, a security guard at the club came by, called 911, and attempted resuscitative efforts. Sadly, even with a jacket tied around the wound to stop the bleeding, Johnny did not make it. Medics pronounced him dead at the hospital.
General Hospital Star Made an Impact on Earth
Like many who knew him, Anita admitted she felt heartbroken and angry. However, she felt peace knowing she accompanied him during his final moments, and he didn’t have to face death “alone.” Anita acknowledged that the only thing that could make her truly peaceful is “seeing these awful men brought to justice.”
She fondly recalled their happy memories together in her caption, noting that the late star lit up any room. The Level 8 employee would forever remember Johnny as “one of the best men I’ve ever known.” She shared,
“No matter how well you knew him, he treated everyone like he truly cared about you. It just filled your heart to be around him. He called me ‘Anita Bonita’ and I hope the stamp of his voice saying that every time I saw him never leaves my memory.”
She concluded by stating just how grateful she felt to have been a part of his life, and knowing she has “gained the best guardian angel out there.” Anita Joy accompanied her lengthy account of Johnny Wactor’s gruesome murder with a photo of them posing together. She also urged fans to donate to the GoFundMe account to support his family with traveling and funeral expenses. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner has since confirmed his cause of death as “a gunshot wound to the chest,” listing it as a homicide. Investigations are ongoing.
