A meat packing plant in Tennessee, Nashville, assumed it was sending a truckload of beef worth $350,000 via a shipping company, but it turns out it was just being robbed.

The incident took place on Thursday, March 27. Southeastern Provisions, located on Helton Road in Bean Station, hired a shipping contractor to pick up and deliver two separate loads of beef to clients in Kentucky and Michigan. However, the company discovered that its clients had yet to receive their goods and had to involve the authorities.

According to WBIR10, the shipping company hired by Southeastern Provisions had subcontracted the delivery to another company called List Trucking Sales. However, when they tried to reach Ahmed Wengy, the dispatcher for List Trucking Sales, they received no response. Wengy could not be contacted via phone and wasn’t responding to his emails.

According to the police report, their identities were not verified when the drivers from List Trucking Sales arrived to pick up the beef shipment. It also appears that the information the subcontracted shipping company provided to the original shipping company was incorrect.

The stolen beef weighed 80,000 pounds. Soon, the story went viral on social media, and several users reacted, wondering how the fake shipping company could pull it off.

“Wow, that’s sh**ty but impressive,” one user said. “Where’s the beef?” another hilariously replied.

Other users seem to think the heist is a sign of the economic recession going on in the country.

“That’s a massive heist! I wonder how they managed to pull it off,” a user reacted. “Subtle recession indicator,” another said.

This Redditor claimed that a separate incident had occurred a few weeks ago, in February, where 100,000 eggs were stolen in Pennsylvania.

“First, they stole 100,000 eggs in Pennsylvania in February. Now they’ve come for 80,000 pounds of meat. I want to be invited to this party!” the user said.

At the moment, none of the culprits behind the beef heist have been traced down or arrested. A similar incident occurred in Texas in March, where some residents were caught on camera looting an Amazon delivery truck.

In the video, the truck can be seen with its back doors wide open, multiple delivery packages littered on the floor in front, but the driver is nowhere to be found. Several people are caught on camera rummaging through the boxes before picking what they want and running off.

When users saw the clip on social media, they condemned the actions of the looters, saying, “Not a fan of Amazon, but also not a fan of thieves.”

Although some of the perpetrators’ faces were caught on camera, the police or Amazon did not issue a statement regarding the matter.
