Marvel has revealed several previews for the upcoming Fall of the House of X #1. The series, from writer Gerry Duggan and artist Lucas Merneck, kicks off the end of the Krakoan Age for mutants. The eagerly anticipated issue seems to focus on a rescue mission by Wolverine and Colossus. The duo is shown trekking through the sewers on a mission to free a recently imprisoned Cyclops. Of course, things never go smoothly for the X-Men and the two end up in a brawl. This leads to a fun twist on the iconic “Fastball Special” move.
Fall Of The House Of X #1
Marvel’s official description for Fall of the House of X #1 reads in part “KRAKOA HAS JUST BEGUN TO FIGHT! Mutantkind has never had a greater fall. From the highs of Krakoa – their own glorious nation, a place where they were safe and happy – to the lowest of lows. Outlawed, hunted, killed, most of their kind missing or dead, and now, one their greatest leaders, Cyclops, is on trial facing a death penalty. Ready or not, the time has come for the X-Men to make their final stand against the forces that have struck them low. The day is now. The place is here. The tale of the house Xavier built will long be told…and few will forget this darkest chapter.”
Several preview panels for Fall of the House of X #1 show off the mission to rescue Cyclops. The leader of the X-Men is being held in a Paris courthouse and awaiting trial. However, Cyclops’ hope for freedom is on its way in the form of Wolverine and Colossus. The two are trekking through the sewers under the courthouse to save their laser-eyed friend. Of course, the two end up being attacked and get the chance to try out some variations of their iconic “Fastball Special.” Usually, Colossus throws Wolverine at an enemy, allowing him to slash through with power and ease. This time around, it is an enemy that the metal Russian sends flying at Wolverine’s claws. Thus, the “Screwball Special” is born.
The Beginning Of Something New
Alongside Rise of the Powers of X, Fall of the House of X is bringing the end of the current age of X-Men. Each five-issue series will show the dramatic conclusion of the war against Orchis. They will span both the present timeline and the not-so-far-off future. The two series will intertwine and work as a single story for readers to see how it all ends. Of course, the end of one thing means there is room for something new. Marvel is already teasing a new X-Men age kicking off in Summer of 2024.
Fall of the House of X #1 is on sale 1/3.
