Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout TV series is finally here, bringing to life the vibrant imagination of Tim Cain, the creator and lead programmer (among additional credits) of the 1997 video game of the same name, which spawned a franchise comprising five main games and seven spin-off titles. Bethesda Game Studios had been approached numerous times regarding a TV series since Fallout 3 in 2008, but the project never got off the ground until recently.
The series follows a woman named Lucy, who leaves Vault 33 to venture out into the wasteland of a desolate Los Angeles in search of her father. Along the way, she meets a squire and a bounty hunter, both with their own scores to settle. The Fallout cast features new and familiar faces, all of whom consider the TV series a passion project. Without further ado, let’s meet the actors behind this colorful cast of characters.
Main Fallout Cast
Ella Purnell as Lucy MacLean
English actress Ella Burnell, 27, plays Lucy MacLean, the young Vault dweller who ventures out into a devastated Los Angeles to find her long-lost father, Hank MacLean. Purnell began her television career on the 2018 BBC drama series Ordeal by Innocence, then snagged steady roles in the ITV miniseries Belgravia and even the Showtime thriller Yellowjackets. She also provided the voices for Jinx in the Netflix series Arcane and Gwyndala in the Paramount Plus/Nickelodeon series Star Trek: Prodigy.
She began her career as a child actress on the West End, beating hundreds of other girls for a role in Oliver! at London’s Theatre Royal. From there, she landed gigs for Never Let Me Go, Intruders, and Maleficent. Her other credits include Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Churchill, and Army of the Dead.
Aaron Moten as Maximus
Texas native Aaron Moten, 35, plays Maximus, the squire of the Brotherhood of Steel whom Lucy meets along her journey. He becomes an ally to Lucy and aids her in surviving the unforgiving wasteland. The Path‘s Amir Carr portrays young Maximus. Moten began acting from a young age after securing a spot in St. Stephen’s Episcopal School’s theater program. In 2012, he appeared in a Broadway revival of A Streetcar Named Desire. After moving to New York City and graduating from Juilliard School, Moten made the main cast of Netflix’s sitcom Disjointed.
He went on to play in Next, Father Stu, Emancipation, and eventually Fallout. Moten made his feature film debut as Troy in Jonathan Demme’s comedy-drama Ricki and the Flash. Demme also directed The Silence of the Lambs, which is largely considered one of the greatest horror movies ever made and coincidentally the only one to win Best Picture at the Oscars.
Kyle MacLachlan as Hank MacLean
A long-time collaborator of filmmaker David Lynch, 65-year-old Kyle MacLachlan plays Hank MacLean, Lucy’s father and the Overseer of Vault 33. If you don’t recognize him as Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks, you might know him as Orson Hodge in Desperate Housewives, Calvin Johnson in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., or maybe even Howard Baskin in Joe vs. Carole. Otherwise, MacLachlan has starred as Mark in Peace, Love & Misunderstanding, the voice of Mr. Anderson in Inside Out and its upcoming sequel, and Dr. Karlock in Capone.
Kyle has Scottish ancestry and changed his surname from McLachlan to MacLachlan to reflect this. He grew up in Yakima, Washington, as the eldest of three boys. MacLachlan was introduced to acting through his mother, who sent him to piano lessons and encouraged him to study classical singing. He initially planned to major in Business, but later switched career paths and chose to pursue acting.
Moisés Arias as Norm MacLean
Any ’90s and 2000s kids will recognize Moisés Arias as Rico Suave in Hannah Montana, but in Fallout, the 29 year old plays Norm MacLean, Lucy’s brother. Arias was born to Columbian parents, therefore he was raised bilingual. He also happens to have a fairly famous brother, Kickin’ It actor Mateo Arias. Aside from Hannah Montana, Arias has starred in Pitch Perfect 3, Five Feet Apart, Ender’s Game, The Stanford Prison Experiment, and even guest-starred on other Disney Channel series, namely The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Everybody Hates Chris and Wizards of Waverly Place.
Xelia Mendes-Jones as Dane
Xelia Mendes-Jones (presumably mid-20s) plays Dane, a member of the Brotherhood of Steel and Maximus’s closest friend. Celia is most famous for his role in Amazon Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time, wherein they portray Renna. Mendes-Jones is a transgender man who began his transition a few years ago, as early as 2020/2021. He uses he/they pronouns, specifically in that order, and seems to be one of the more well-received newcomers to the industry.
Walton Goggins as The Ghoul / Cooper Howard
Alabama-born Walton Goggins, 52, portrays The Ghoul / Cooper Howard, a once famous Hollywood actor who mutated into a ghoul after the bombs fell and now makes a living as a gunslinger and bounty hunter. He also becomes an ally of Lucy’s. Goggins was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his work on Justified, on which he plays the thief and pyrotechnics expert Boyd Crowder.
Goggins has appeared in the TV shows Vice Principals, The Righteous Gemstones, and Invincible, as well as the feature films Predators, Lincoln, Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, Tomb Raider, and Ant-Man and the Wasp.
