The first review for Final Fantasy 16 is out and Famitsu has gotten the ball rolling by singing the game’s praises. This signals what we can expect from the game’s critical reception across different publications in the future. Famitsu is a renowned Japanese magazine and is setting the bar really high for Final Fantasy 16’s story, gameplay, and polish.
According to the report by ryokutya2089, Famitsu magazine has given Final Fantasy 16 a review score of 39 out of 40. It just fell a hair short of an absolute perfect rating. For the uninitiated, the rating system might seem quite odd, but Famitsu does things a bit differently when compared to other reviewers. The review process for every game has four different reviewers, all of whom rate the game in question out of 10. And in the case of Final Fantasy 16, three reviewers gave the game a perfect 10, while one gave it a 9.
Famitsu Final Fantasy 16 Review Details
The same report also says that Famitsu magazine has intriguing details to share regarding the game. They confirmed that the main story of Final Fantasy 16 can be completed within a time frame of 35-40 hours, giving players a captivating narrative to sink their teeth into. 35 to 40 hours is a lot higher than the initially estimated 20-30 hours, which should come as great news for most fans. But since the game also has side activities, the total duration will be around 70 hours. And that is not even counting the Final Fantasy difficulty that is unlocked for New Game+, which changes the world in many ways, not just the difficulty.
While Final Fantasy 16 fell slightly short of attaining the prestigious “Famitsu 40” status, it got extremely close. For context, the two recent games that have gotten a perfect 40 include The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Street Fighter 6. And the total number of games to ever get a 40 is 28. Clearly a rare occurrence.
Final Fantasy 16 now stands as the sixth installment in the series to achieve such a high score from Famitsu. The last games to get this score were Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy 13, Final Fantasy Type-0, Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, and Final Fantasy 7 Remake. So if you liked any of them, you’ll probably like Final Fantasy 16 too.
