Jennifer Aniston may be one of the most recognizable faces in television history, but the “Friends” alum is setting her sights on a new stage literally. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the 56-year-old actress revealed her long-held dream to perform on Broadway. “I definitely want to do a Broadway play,” Aniston shared. “That’s on my bucket list.”

While she has off-Broadway experience from early in her career, Aniston emphasized that the timing and material have to be just right. “I absolutely have to do a play on Broadway,” she stressed. “The problem is finding the right piece, the right material.”
The Emmy-winning actress, known for her role as Rachel Green in “Friends” and for her more recent performances in “The Morning Show” and films like “Cake” and “The Break-Up,” also opened up about needing to slow down. “I’m a bit of a workaholic, so I’m forcing myself to try to take some time to travel and not work,” she said. But while Aniston is manifesting a Broadway moment, the internet isn’t exactly rolling out the red carpet.
Jennifer Aniston Eyes Broadway Debut, But Not Everyone’s Applauding
Social media users had no shortage of opinions, and many weren’t kind. “Jennifer is boring. She doesn’t even look like herself after all the work she has had done,” one critic wrote. Another added, “Only if the Broadway play requires a whiny Rachel…that’s all she can do and even that got annoying and monotonous.” Others dismissed the idea entirely. “She doesn’t have what it takes to perform on Broadway…talent,” one comment read. Another sniped, “Yawn,” while a third quipped, “No one cares.”
“This woman is a self-involved bore, of the first order!” someone else wrote. “My pinky toenail has more talent than she will ever have.” Other critics added, “My bucket list is to experience a world where she is no longer famous,” and “She is NOT Broadway material in the slightest.”
Still, Aniston’s fans and industry peers may beg to differ. With decades of acting experience under her belt and a consistent presence in film and TV, it’s not hard to imagine the actress making the leap to live theater when the right role comes along. As for when we might see her under the bright lights of Broadway? That remains to be seen. But one thing’s certain, when (or if) it happens, people will be watching…even if some are just waiting to criticize from the front row.
