Shakira’s highly anticipated performance in Washington, D.C., has officially been canceled. It marks the third show dropped in a series of last-minute tour disruptions that are frustrating fans. The 48-year-old Colombian superstar was slated to take the stage at Nationals Park on Saturday night as part of WorldPride’s welcome event. But on Friday, the venue announced that the show would no longer go on. The cancellation was due to production delays caused by issues at an earlier stop on the tour.
“Due to complications with the previous show in Boston, Shakira’s full tour production cannot be transported to Washington, D.C. in time,” Nationals Park posted in a statement. The concert had been part of the kickoff celebration for WorldPride, the largest LGBTQ+ festival globally, which ushers in the start of Pride Month. The announcement came on the heels of two canceled performances at Boston’s Fenway Park scheduled for Thursday and Friday. According to TMZ, city inspectors found “structural elements that were not up to standard,” prompting organizers to pull the plug on both nights for safety reasons.
Shakira Speaks Out After Tour Setbacks
Shakira, whose “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran” tour recently broke records, expressed disappointment in a message shared via TMZ, “I have been counting the days, excited to be reunited with my fans in both Washington and Boston… I am devastated that these shows were just not possible this time.” Refunds for ticket holders who purchased through Ticketmaster or Nationals.com are being processed automatically, per the ballpark’s update.
But while some fans sympathized with the singer, others didn’t hold back. “Just stay out of the U.S.,” one person wrote online. Another added, “Has been. Just another in the long line of so-called artists who cancel shows.”
“She’s rubbish. Who on earth would go to see her in concert?!” one harsh comment read, while others compared her to other stars. “The new Bieber,” a fan quipped. Another called the cancellations “unacceptable considering the amount of money fans have to pay.” Though many were disappointed, some expressed empathy for those left empty-handed. “Wouldn’t pay to see her anyways,” one user wrote, “Sucks for her fans though that paid.”
Shakira promised she’s doing everything she can to reschedule and reunite with fans. But with three cancellations now behind her, the pressure is clearly on.
