This is not a drill, Warriors of Light. FFXIV Mobile is now a reality. Announced by Naoki Yoshida, FFXIV is taking its colorful lands of Eorzea to mobile devices. While this is certainly a surprising announcement, it is a welcome one and one we can’t wait to try. Even if there isn’t a release date yet, players can already start following the game’s development to become part of this journey, which you will now be able to play on the go.
From what we can see from the official trailer and website, FFXIV Mobile will bring the first part of every Warrior of Light adventure to iOS and Android devices. Or at least it seems as such, especially because only parts of A Realm Reborn are shown in the footage. It seems this mobile version aims to recreate the original story in a faithful way while also bringing some of the combat and non-combat-oriented features of the MMO, such as nine playable classes at launch, crafting and gathering jobs, Chocobo racing, Triple Triad, and more.
What we gather from this announcement is that the game will remain faithful to the MMO version we can play right now on most platforms. Also, the teaser shows key parts of the game’s 2.0 version, which might mean we won’t get any expansions at launch. How that will work with the MMO is still uncertain, but it is certainly exciting.
The game’s website also mentions that Warriors of Light can “Play Together or on Your Own.” The latter points to a more solo-friendly approach. However, it’s uncertain if this means there will be an offline mode of sorts or just some of the solo instances and NPC dungeons we’ve seen in the normal version of FFXIV.
Whatever the case may be, it is nice to see one of the biggest MMOs in the market reaching new platforms. While we can now play it on PlayStation consoles, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, having it on mobile will certainly attract more players to this gorgeous world.
