Despite my reservations, the Final Fantasy 7 remake was amazing, at least in part one. In our review, which you can read here, we loved it and gave it a fully deserved 5 out of 5. Since its release in April, fans have been clamoring for news of part 2.
We’ve known that Final Fantasy 7: Part 2 has been in development for a while as a recent update explained that development was taking place remotely due to the Coronavirus pandemic. At the time, producer Yoshinori Kitase said it wouldn’t have an impact on the title in the long term.
Quite what time frame that refers to is unknown as we have no fixed release date yet, and not much to go on in the way of updates. Thankfully, that may start to change over the coming months as in tomorrow’s Famitsu there is a 15-page interview with director Tetsuya Nomura.
The interview has appeared in online blogs and has been translated by twitter user @aitaikimochi who has posted information on her account.
According to the interview, the next part of Final Fantasy 7 is in full development and the story has only just begun. A slightly worrying statement to the fans who thought Part 1 diverged from the core story too much.
Nomura also has this to say regarding the next installment:
“We know that everyone wants the next installment quickly. We would also like to deliver it as soon as possible. Since we were also able to see the line of quality from the first installment we hope to make the next installment even better in quality that can make for an even better experience. We would like to get it out as soon as possible, so please wait for it. I think we can clearly convey the direction when we officially announce the next installment.”
Let’s hope they announce it soon.
I’m looking forward to reading the whole interview myself, even if it won’t give us all the information we crave.
It goes without saying, but we’ll bring you more information on Part 2 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake as soon as it comes in, but in the meantime please be sure to let us know what you want to see in it, as well as your thoughts on the first.
