Square Enix has announced that players who got Final Fantasy 7 Remake via PS Plus will finally be able to upgrade to the PS5 version of the game for free. PS Plus subscribers had been angered when they could not upgrade to the PS5 version of the game. Those who purchased the game outside of PS Plus were able to upgrade for free. This left PS Plus subscribers feeling like second-class customers when they were left out. Check out the tweet announcing the upgrade below.

Starting this Wednesday…

The PS4 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remakeย was made available to PS Plus subscribers in March of this year. The PS Plus inclusion came at the same time the game was announced for the PS5.ย Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade was announced for the PS5 during Sony’s February State of Play. During the reveal, Sony announced that the PS5 version would be a free upgrade for PS4 owners of the game. The next day, Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced for March’s PS Plus line-up with the caveat that playersย couldn’tย upgrade that version of the game for free.

Worse still, the only way for PS Plus subscribers to get the PS5 version of the game was to pay full price for it. There was no option for subscribers to pay to upgrade their PS Plus version of the game. While most players are happy to receive the upgrade later rather than never, the replies to Square’s announcement are filled with people complaining that they had already purchased the game at full price.

The DLC that came with the PS5 version ofย Final Fantasy 7 Remake will also go on sale. The DLC is not included with the PS5 upgrade for PS Plus subscribers or regular owners of the PS4 version of the game.

The PS5 upgrade will be available for PS Plus subscribers from Wednesday. The Yuffie Kisaragi DLC will also be on sale for all players who have upgraded from the PS4 version of the game.
