Many series have become staples in their genre, such as Resident Evil for survival horror, GTA for open-world games, and Final Fantasy for RPGs. The latter becomes bigger year after year and release after release. The MMO has been a massive part of the franchise’s success, but Final Fantasy as a series has reached a new sales milestone thanks to the latest mainline entry. This is great, as many players always hope for more products from this franchise. This all bodes well for Final Fantasy‘s future, and players can’t wait to see what’s in store.

Final Fantasy reaching 180 million units sold is an amazing achievement. It shows that players are still in love with the franchise after all this time. At the same time, it is uncertain if this includes the revenue from the MMO. However, the success of the latest game shows that players are still eager to try anything from this franchise made by Square Enix. Even if every title slightly changes its gameplay, the series hasn’t strayed far from its roots.

While this Final Fantasy series sales milestone is excellent, it isn’t as big as some other franchises. GTA 5 has sold the same number, and that’s just one game. Yet, we can understand why. Some people aren’t big fans of JRPGs, and open-world games like GTA are always easier to get into. Yet, it is nice that Square Enix’s franchise keeps growing, and we can’t wait to see more of it. The FFXIV Fan Festivals are on their way and might bring news about the upcoming expansion for the MMO. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth isn’t far away either, so it’s bound to be an excellent year for the franchise.
