Last year, Square Enix announced and launched their Final Fantasy pixel remaster series on Steam, iOS, and Android. These remaster gave the beloved 2D Final Fantasy games a fresh coat of pixelated paint. To date, Square Enix has remastered the first five games in the series with updated graphics, changes to the soundtrack, and some gameplay tweaks. Today, Square Enix announced that the series would conclude with the release of the Final Fantasy VI remaster on February 23, 2022.
Final Fantasy VI is considered by many to be one of the most beloved entries in the series. The pixel remaster is sure to see old fans returning to the game and new fans joining in on the fun.
What Can Fans Expect From The Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster?
The Final Fantasy VI pixel remaster will feature some changes not present in the original game. These changes are listed in today’s press release, as well as on the game’s Steam store page:
“Players will be able to customize their party members’ abilities, magic spells and summons with the acclaimed magicite system. In addition, players can look forward to many improvements and updates for FINAL FANTASY VI, including:
- Universally updated 2D pixel graphics, including the iconic FINAL FANTASY pixel character designs created by Kazuko Shibuya, the original artist and current collaborator.
- A beautifully rearranged soundtrack in a faithful FINAL FANTASY style, overseen by the original composer Nobuo Uematsu.
- Improved gameplay, including modernized UI, auto-battle options and more!
- Supplemental extras like the bestiary, illustration gallery and music player.”
The Final Fantasy VI pixel remaster is coming to Steam, iOS, and Android in North America on February 23, 2022. The game is available for pre-order now. According to the press release, players who pre-order through Steam get a 20% discount, as well as bonus wallpapers and music tracks.
