News has emerged today at the PlayStation Experience Event about the progress of the Final Fantasy VII remake we’ve wanted for years. Square Enix have stated that the new title will be episodic and “told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience.”
No pricing details or release date have been mentioned thus far, but this is very intriguing news as the game is renowned for its size and non-linear gameplay. Could the release date be sooner than we expected if the whole game is not being shipped as a single entity? Time will tell.
At the PSX press conference, we had an opportunity to see the first in-game footage from the remake and it looks remarkable. The game looks familiar, but the graphics have seen a massive overhaul. The combat system has been completely revamped but still retains some of Final Fantasy VII’s core mechanics.
The only footage we have seen so far resides within the first 30 minutes of the game in Midgar. Could this perhaps be one of the “multi-part series” and if this is the case, how many episodes will the remake contain? Having spent hundreds of hours within FF7, this decision seem bizarre to me but I hope that I am proven wrong.
Check out the video below of the first gameplay footage from the remake.
