Final Fantasy XIV Online is getting a PlayStation 5 upgrade. The news came directly from Square Enix during a recent livestream. The update serves as a way for the game to utilize new consoles’ latest tech. SSD for faster load times. New custom GPU for better visuals. 4K support. Things like that. You can find further details on the game’s official blog.
Here’s a cool new trailer showcasing some of the new features you can expect:
It seems a bit weird that a decade-old game is getting next-gen support, but Final Fantasy XIV Online is the most popular MMORPG on PlayStation, and we know how passionate MMORPG players can get. All those years put into the game. The time spent with beloved characters. That’s not something you want to let go of. Especially now with a show in the works. Fans are stoked. Besides, it’s becoming obvious that this generation is a bit more complicated than the last. Consoles are starting to look a bit more like PC’s than locked off ecosystems.
The open beta starts on the 13th of April, 2021. So if you own a PlayStation 5 and are an avid Final Fantasy XIV fan, maybe remember that date.
New Final Fantasy XIV Expansion: Endwalker
During the livestream, Square Enix announced the next expansion as well. Endwalker. Square Enix had the following to say about the upcoming expansion:
“Endwalker features the climax of the Hydaelyn and Zodiark story, in which Warriors of Light will encounter an even greater calamity than ever before as they travel to the far reaches of Hydaelyn and even to the moon. Endwalker will mark a new beginning for the beloved MMO, setting the stage for new adventures that longtime fans and new players can enjoy together.”
