It has been a very long road, Final Fantasy fans. We have been waiting for what was initially named Final Fantasy Versus, now titled Final Fantasy XV, for over a decade. Many of us were even assuming the worst at some point, expecting the game to be cancelled due the prolonged development of the game. This news comes straight from game director Hajime Tabata, who announced Final Fantasy XV’s 2016 release window in a New Year’s blog post. A release for 2016 was already strongly hinted and speculated at, but now it’s absolutely confirmed. Tabata earlier confirmed that the game was in its final phase of development, and Final Fantasy XV is now playable from start to finish.
“We will finally release FFXV this year, in 2016!” Tabata said. “In development, previous phases required wisdom and strength. However, moving forward the final phase will focus on effort and willpower.”
