More news about the upcoming Final Fantasy game! Recently, Naoki Yoshida (the game’s producer) discussed the different game modes that Final Fantasy XVI will have. According to Games Talk (translated via Siliconera), this included a mode for players who are more interested in the story of Final Fantasy XVI as opposed to its game mechanics.
Final Fantasy XVI’s Story Only Mode?
During his interview with “Game Hack,” Yoshida discussed how Final Fantasy XVI will have parts that are focused on story and action-oriented sequences. For long-time fans of the series, this isn’t much of a surprise. Of course, who can forget that cinematic, legendary scene of Sephiroth standing in front of a wall of fire?
But what might catch a lot of Final Fantasy fans’ attention is the idea of a story-focused mode in Final Fantasy XVI. Yoshida mentioned that this feature is created to cater to the fans who aren’t so fond of the action gameplay. He also mentioned that there will be “a variety of support actions” in this mode. Unfortunately, Yoshida didn’t expand on what this actually consists of. Regardless, Yoshida added that the gameplay mechanics will be easy to learn.
Is Final Fantasy XVI’s story mode going to be just another movie? Perhaps it will have more of a Tell-Tale vibe. Only time will tell.
In terms of the storyline, Yoshida mentions that it will have themes about growing up and becoming an adult. He also states that he wanted to “create a world within the Final Fantasy universe that those who understand the complexities and realities of good and bad can be excited for.” (via Siliconera)
Return to Medieval Roots
After exploring different sci-fi and modern themes since the ninth installment, the series will be returning to its medieval roots in this new installment. Currently, it is being developed for the PlayStation 5. It was announced that basic development was wrapped around October 2020.
Are you excited about the new Final Fantasy? I sure am. What do you think about Final Fantasy XVI’s story mode? What other features would you like to see in the game? Let me know in the comments.
