The royal family takes a dig at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s twerking video with a funny reaction to a clip comically imitating them. Meghan created a stir earlier this month when she shared a candid video of her and Harry dancing in the delivery room years back, in an attempt to trigger her overdue labour while pregnant with daughter, Lilibet. The clip, which the duchess shared in honor of Lilibet’s fourth birthday, quickly went viral, attracting public scrutiny from many who deemed it cringeworthy. The majority of critics slammed the duchess for making such an intimate family moment public, labeling it an embarrassment for the royal family, which painted the wrong picture.
While royal observers and many within the royal circle have reacted to the video, the royal family has kept mum about it, failing to disclose whether it indeed constitutes a royal embarrassment. After weeks of anticipation, the royal family finally breaks their silence on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s twerking video, but not in the way one would have expected.
Royal Family Reacts to Twerking Video Mocking Meghan Markle
On Wednesday, Made in Chelsea alum Jamie Laing shocked fans with a funny video of himself and his pregnant wife, Sophie Haboo, mockingly imitating the Sussexes’ viral twerking clip on the Grand Staircase of Buckingham Palace! The footage showed the pair dancing to Starrkeisha’s Baby Mama, the same track used in Meghan’s viral video, with pictures of legendary royal family members and prized art pieces hanging in the background. The couple’s caption suggested they’d sneaked around to capture the video while attending the King’s Trust reception, as it was against palace rules. Laing wrote,
“They said we couldn’t film in Buckingham Palace.”
Surprisingly, the royal family’s official Instagram account acknowledged the couple’s defiance with a touch of humor, writing,
“We see you ๐๐.”
The King’s Trust, the host of the reception, also acknowledged the video with a sarcastic comment, which has garnered over two thousand likes. It read,
“All of our attendees are very well behaved ๐๐.”
Fans Anticipate Brewing Drama Following Obvious Royal Dig

Royal fans have since expressed disbelief and surprise that the Palace commented on the hilarious video with an unmistakable sense of humor. Many consider their reaction to the mock twerking video a dig at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who have failed to snag a reaction from the monarch despite their apparent bid for attention during interviews or via incessant Instagram posts. Reacting to the subtle dig, one royal fan commented,
“This was so intentional. But hilarious for all the obvious reasons.”
Another wrote,
“The audacity! Love it! British humor at its finest.”
A third commented,
“When you get to do it at the Palace, but Harry and Meghan couldnโt lol.”
A fourth commenter noted that “Charles Windsor has zero fcks left to give, and I am so here for this savagery,” while another wrote, “This is actually a priceless hit back in so many ways.” Meanwhile, some commenters slammed the royal family’s reaction to the mock twerking video targeting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, insisting their encouragement of Laing and his wife only spotlighted the monarchy’s “clear bias and double standards.”
Notably, while the Laing and Haboo’s Baby Mana dance clip has gotten the thumbs up from the palace and royal watchers, the royal radar wasn’t that receptive to Meghan Markle’s post earlier this month. At the time, many condemned the royal-turned-entrepreneur for sharing the dance video online, writing it off as “cringeworthy,” “vulgar, unnecessary, and attention-seeking.” Regardless, Meghan had no regrets about sharing the clip, even proudly referencing her twerking video during her recent sit-down with Emma Grede. For Meghan, although her privacy and that of her family remain paramount, she simply desired the freedom to share tidbits about her life on her own terms, and her social media platform has given her just that, without the constraints of palace rules.
