“Don’t worry; we do this all the time” is typically the words of someone before disaster strikes, especially if proper preparational steps are not taken. That’s exactly what a Georgia woman heard right before three maintenance contractors flooded her living room. The man fiddling with a ceiling fire sprinkler didn’t realize it was connected to a separate pipework, resulting in water bursting into the room. The wild thing is that nothing was moved or unplugged, including the Samsung TV.
In her first TikTok post explaining what happened, XoSagg, the woman recording the incident, was working from home when the three maintenance workers entered her apartment, likely at the owner’s request. She asked one of the men whether they would move her TV and sofa first before attempting their repairs, and he said it would be fine; nothing would get wet. To their surprise, everything did end up getting wet: all the furniture in the living room, including the plugged-in flatscreen.
Miraculously, XoSagg claims the TV still works, but everything else was soaked. Plenty of people asked whether she would sue, but the landlord seems to be handling things so far, such as paying for her hotel stay while repairs were being done. Her biggest concern is the mold, as black mold forming in the floor or ceiling would definitely be a huge hazard in the future.
Online Commenters Slammed for the Georgia Maintenance Workers for Their Carelessness
All that being said, people still believe the carelessness of the three workers with the fire sprinkler needs to be addressed. As one Redditor puts it, “That level of recklessness is wild.” It’s no secret that landlords will often hire rather incompetent individuals for cheap labor, especially when it comes to maintaining their property. While there’s no evidence this was the case, the men were certainly incompetent with this repair and the damage they caused with their major oversight. “Literally why can’t you turn off the water first. I swear some contractors don’t have common sense,” sighed a commenter.
This disaster could definitely have been avoided, with one commenter pointing out that a complete water shutoff should have been done. Unfortunately, the workers’ hubris got the best of them. On the bright side, many people praised XoSagg for handling the whole situation so calmly, during and after the incident.
