Morbius is set to hit the silver screen July this year and now the official first trailer is here.

The supervillain action flick, starring former Joker Jared Leto, is revealing something dark and sinister indeed. And who would expect anything less for such a monstrous vampiric character?

Scary enough for you, yet? According to producer Avi Arad, the film explores “the story about the healer that becomes a killer, and how do you deal with it”, while admitting that Morbius was always one of his “favorite characters”.

And while Twitter hasn’t been dealing with questions of that existential magnitude (presumably), some Spider-Fan Twitterers have gone crazy over a leaked image. This time, it features a cameo from the web-slinger himself, Spider-Man.

But what’s really interesting about the photo is that it seems to feature the Raimi version of the character. This appears to suggest that Morbius could potentially take place in the ‘Raimiverse’ that his Spider-Man movies established. Check out the photo below:

But something seemed amiss to fans. If you loved Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PlayStation 4, then you’ll immediately know why. The poster that Morbius passes in this shot appears to be taken directly from the game! You can see below for comparison:

If you’ve played the game, you’ll know this shot appears on the loading screens when you have the Raimi suit selected. This would make Morbius the first Spider-Man-related movie to reference one of his videogames.

Yet, having the Raimi suit on display in the film seemingly contradicts what Sony has said previously. They claimed they would use the MCU Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, in their movies. But the existence of Tobey Maguire’s Spidey in the movie’s universe means this isn’t so, at least for Morbius.

Are you excited to see a Raimi Spider-Man reference in the film? Would you like Morbius to be set in the Raimiverse? Share your thoughts in the comments below…
