A trip to Trader Joe’s might not be an important event for many. However, for a California woman’s roommate, it was the best day of her life. Not only did she pick up valuable items, but she was also congratulated for it being her first time in the store. Apparently, she was also flirted with, something not that uncommon for the grocery store chain.
TikTok user balancedbylo documented her Mexican roommate’s first visit to Trader Joe’s. From the get-go, the California woman made it a big deal, telling two workers inside the store that it was her roommate’s first time in the store.
Matching her excitement, the workers told the roommate, “Oh my gosh, congratulations!” They were met with nervous laughter and huge smiles.
Then, balancedbylo revealed that she told her roommate that workers in Trader Joe’s are paid to flirt with the customers. While an example of this would come later in the video, the flirting worker theory is officially a myth. However, many in the comments seemed to agree with the TikToker.
Both women surveyed through the grocery store items, with balancedbylo saying that everything looked like candy. Trader Joe’s might not be Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, but it did leave an impression on the roommate, who was speechless.
“I feel like, I don’t know,” she said.
A Trader Joe’s Experience, Reactions
After grabbing some Trader Joe’s merch and some extra items, including ranch, the roommate exclaimed that she loved the store. As she said that, however, another customer found out via the California woman that it was her first time in the store. Nervous laughter and smiles appeared once again on the roommate’s face.
During checkout, blancedbylo showed the “flirting” she was referring to earlier. Her roommate is seen smiling at the cashier, as he told her, “Excited to have you!” Then, the gentleman gifted her a “special bag.”
After leaving the store, the roommate was left aghast by the niceness displayed by the Trader Joe’s employees. She is then seen enjoying her recently bought snacks, which are, by all means, a treat.
Users joined the fun and commented their reactions to a memorable visit to Trader Joe’s.
“The employees saying congratulations is frying me,” one user commented. “Can we get first-time at Trader Joe’s pins?” another user wrote. A third one asked, “Wait, so they do flirt? I thought it was just me.”
Seeing the amount of fun both women had at the grocery store, it is safe to say that this won’t be the last time they’ll be visiting Trader Joe’s.
