Irresponsible parents and a car during the hot summer are never a good combination, often ending in tragic consequences. Fortunately, the tale we’re about to go over does not end in tragedy, yet it’s another story of “This never should have happened,” specifically involving a Florida couple and their infant child. A 28-year-old woman and her 60-year-old husband were drinking inside a bar while their baby slept in the parking lot. “The car was unlocked, the keys were in the ignition, and the engine was running,” according to a report by WSVN.
On top of being left alone, the child was said to be “improperly secured in the back seat.” There’s no telling what would have happened if any bad actors would have discovered the infant in an unlocked and running vehicle. When police arrived after “responding to a tip,” they apprehended both the man and woman, who bizarrely gave different accounts of how long they left the baby in the parking lot alone.
They were both drunk, so that meant they would have been driving under the influence, had the authorities not been called. It was an absolute mess waiting to happen, so getting arrested was the best outcome for these two poor excuses of parents. Even the local county sheriff was anything but impressed with how reckless and irresponsible these parents were. “These two will never receive parents of the year award with this behavior,” the sheriff stated. Thank goodness a random concerned passerby decided to do the right thing and call the police.
With so many deaths of children left in vehicles during this summer, it’s a scary thought to ponder what could have happened. Multiple online commenters agree that the two Florida parents deserve time behind bars for endangering the life of their infant child. “Put them under the jail. This is sad. NUFF SAID,” remarks a viewer on YouTube. “Leave your baby in a car, straight to jail,” agreed another. A Reddit user surmised that “it must have been a split‑second decision that went terribly wrong,” to which I think the parents likely have a history of poor decisions and impulsive behavior, solely based on this story.
