A Florida homeowner refused to pay four landscapers their agreed $650 after claiming they finished the job too quickly. The driveway argument was caught on video and has spread online, both over the payment dispute and, according to captions attached to the clip, an alleged threat that took the confrontation beyond a simple disagreement over money.
The roughly 60-second video was filmed in a residential driveway in South Miami-Dade County, Florida. A bearded homeowner wearing a green T-shirt and dark shorts, with tattoos visible on his arms, paces in front of the property while speaking to a crew of four Hispanic landscapers, most of whom remain off-camera.
The video was originally posted to Instagram by @thomasrmrz4 and later reshared on X by @LongTimeHistory.
In the video, the homeowner angrily speaks in Spanish, accusing the crew of clearing weeds and rocks too quickly. He also claims they spent part of the job drinking and sleeping instead of working. Translated from the clip, he tells them, “That’s a lack of respect,” and questions whether they are “counting right” to get paid.
The homeowner says he has the money to pay but disputes whether the workers earned the full $650 they were owed. During the exchange, someone says, “We weren’t stealing from anybody,” while the homeowner responds, “What more do you want?”
Captions circulating with the video also claim the homeowner, who is Cuban, threatened to call immigration authorities on the crew. That specific threat is not clearly audible in the portion of the video reviewed.
Neither the homeowner nor the landscaping workers have been publicly identified or reached for comment.

The apparent irony of the situation drove much of the online reaction. One commenter wrote, “1st Generation Immigrants threatening deportation for there own kind. The audacity. Immigration Amnesia is an epidemic,” while another said, “ICE would likely grab him too.” A third questioned the idea behind the alleged threat, asking, “Are we deporting people for being disrespectful now, because…”
Other comments focused on identity within the Hispanic community. One user wrote, “Not surprised. Too many Hispanic ppl think they are ok bcs they’re light skinned. However, when ppl in certain circles hear their names or their speech, they’re just immigrants.” Another added, “Again, it’s florida. Is anybody surprised these cubans wanna be white? So bad it’s pathetic.”
Wage disputes involving day laborers and landscaping crews are a recurring issue in Florida. Workers who are not fully paid for completed work can file claims with the state’s Department of Economic Opportunity or take the matter to small claims court, regardless of immigration status.
