Florida is the internet’s favorite wildcard when it comes to viral moments. It’s a place where extreme weather, unpredictable animals, and people with a flair for the dramatic all seem to collide in the most unexpected ways. So, it’s not exactly a shocker that the latest viral sensation comes from the Sunshine State. This time, it’s an influencer who goes by @stackz, who managed to turn one of Florida’s strangest weather phenomena into internet gold.

An unusually chilly cold front swept through South Florida, dropping temperatures into the 30s. Iguanas, unable to cope with the sudden chill, began freezing up and dropping from their perches in the trees. For long-time residents, this has almost become an odd seasonal tradition, but for the uninitiated, it’s a scene out of a surreal nature documentary.

This influencer decided to take the spectacle up a notch. In his now-viral clip, he has sprawled out on the grass, completely covered by a heap of frozen, stiff iguanas. He even jokes that he has made himself an “iguana blanket.”

Notably, @stackz makes sure to clarify for anyone worried about animal cruelty: the iguanas aren’t dead. He takes a moment mid-video to explain the science behind the spectacle, introducing his audience to the concept of torpor, a temporary state where the reptiles become so cold they can’t move, but they are very much alive. He even throws in a message about respecting all creatures, saying, “We love everything with a heartbeat.”

The reactions were all over the place. Some people couldn’t stop laughing, calling it peak internet comedy. And then there was a whole segment of viewers who were trying to wrap their heads around the sheer absurdity of it all.

Internet Reacts to Florida Man’s “Iguana Blanket”

One X user summed it all up, commenting, “Of course, a Florida man.”

Another user said, “Florida Man during his least weird moment.”

A user added, “The legend of Florida Man continues…”

“Florida, floridaing,” yet another user stated.

A user jokingly mentioned, “I swear to God, Florida is not a real place.”

“Iguana blanket” has officially become the latest entry in the long, bizarre list of Florida’s most memorable cold snap stories. Every time the temperature dips, you know you are in for at least one surreal headline, and this one definitely didn’t disappoint.
