In the world of fame and content creators, popularity is fleeting. One day, public figures can be at the top, and then, because of a single act, experience a massive international backlash. Although in this case, a Florida influencer did not do anything to scare her followers away, she simply announced her pregnancy, which resulted in approximately 3,000 men clicking to unfollow her social media accounts.
On TikTok, country singer Emily Zeck first uploaded a video sharing the fantastic news that she is expecting a baby. But after this first video about her pregnancy, the Florida influencer began to notice that almost 3,000 people unfollowed her. Rather than responding, she made a new video pointing out how strange she found this, and somewhat amusing. Especially since Emily herself says she is already in her 30s and in a healthy marriage, so she doesn’t understand what could be so shocking about her having a baby. Especially because she is happy with her husband, her life, her career, and she wants to be a mother.
Another thing that stood out in her video is that the singer says that most of the unfollows were from men. So if they were against singers having children, it’s even stranger, because there are many male singers with one or even many more babies. But several followers think the massive unfollow was more because those men fantasized about having something romantic with the singer at some point. That was the case of @Zachary Neese, who exemplified that writing: “Oh no, now my chance is definitely gone“๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ.
A few other comments suggest that this strange phenomenon is probably due to other celebrities who have children changing their content. As @Shallowjam explained in their comment: “I think it’s that when people have kids they change (of course duh) and therefore the content they make changes. A lot of people don’t want ‘momtok‘. Although it is quite common for influencers to share aspects of their parenthood on social media or in their advertisements, not everyone has to follow this rule. Emily Zeck already has her TikTok account with content beyond her music, like her personal life or her house. An example is when she made a TikTok series about how she rescued a small baby bird that came into her garden, and its parents were trying to help their feathered kid. Even so, whether Emily continues or changes her content is up to her.
