A family has come under heavy criticism for taking their kid on an excursion, not to a water park or a zoo, but to an immigration detention center in Florida. A video posted on TikTok captured a middle-aged couple and their son standing just outside the Alligator Alcatraz — the newly built concentration camp. The facility has gained widespread popularity for its horrifying name and inhumane conditions.
The video in question was recorded by a passerby who spotted the family standing in front of a blue and white signboard that boldly read, “Alligator Alcatraz.” The man, dressed in camouflage shorts, a grey shirt, and a red hat, stood by and surveyed the area while his wife photographed their son in front of the signboard.
Clearly appalled by the scene, the lady recording the video urged her followers to find more information on the family. “There they are. Here’s a family thinking that it’s fun to kill people. Here are their faces. Figure out who they are, what they do for a living,” she declared.
At one point, the man walked past the lady recording the video and approached a police car parked on the side of the road. He exchanged a few words with the officer in the car, gave him a thumbs-up, and walked back to take more pictures with his wife and son.
Social media users online were quick to criticize the family for teaching their son to support the establishment. One user wrote, “Teaching their son hate. Typical,” and another commented, “Can’t spell red hat without HATRED!”
A user sarcastically commented, “A nice Christian family outing. ‘Let’s take photos of Auschwitz, next.’” Another called the family’s behavior “repugnant and deplorable.” “…I’d love for this to go viral. This is pretty sickening stuff. Making a tourist attraction out of a concentration camp? WTF are you doing?”
Appalled, one user added, “They’re celebrating the opening of a literal concentration camp surrounded by alligators to eat anyone who dares try to escape.”
Alligator Alcatraz was recently established in the Florida Everglades amid President Donald Trump’s increasingly brutal crackdown on immigration. Surrounded by alligators, the detention center was built as a holding facility for thousands of illegal immigrants.
The establishment attracted swift, widespread condemnation for its cage-like holding cells, dangerous environs, and generally inhumane conditions. However, MAGA supporters and influencers found the facility exciting, as they have been paying visits to the site to take pictures near the signpost. Some even went as far as to produce various merchandise to further publicize the detention center.
