No teacher wishes to be heckled during summer break, yet one unfortunate soul in Florida fell prey to an unexpected trick from a parent who wanted to discuss her daughter’s grades. The teacher in question, who goes by Disgruntled_Veteran on Reddit, posted about his folly to r/Teachers, where he explained that he typically doesn’t check email during vacation time. However, during a spontaneous browsing session, an email labeled with the alarming words “Medical Emergency” caught his attention.
The caring teacher that he is, Disgruntled_Veteran remarked, “I saw that it was from the mother of one of my students, and I was concerned about my student’s well-being. So I opened the email like a fool.” Needless to say, it was not about his student’s health. The email instead began with “Now that I have your attention…”
The mother had allegedly sent a tirade to the teacher about why she believed her 6th-grade daughter didn’t deserve a “B.” Frustrated and betrayed, Disgruntled_Veteran forwarded the email to the school’s principal. “I am seriously considering composing an email with the header ‘Mr. Teacher’s Horrific Car Accident.’ Then chew them out over lying about a medical emergency,” he joked, though tens of thousands of Redditors believed it not to be a bad idea.
Reddit Slammed the Florida Mother for Her Deceitful Behavior Against Her Daughter’s Teacher
“I would just not respond… ever. She’s moved on to a new grade,” suggested a commenter. “All this parent wants is to know she got OP’s attention. Don’t give her the satisfaction,” agreed another. “Absolutely do not respond. Do NOT give her the attention she wants. Ignore ignore,” exclaimed a third.
Others chimed in, jokingly recommending that the teacher go with the mother’s wishes and change her daughter’s grade, to something worse. “No, this punishes the student for having an AH for a parent,” argues a more thoughtful user.
Plenty more commenters condemned the mother for manipulating the teacher into reading her email. Some called it “rude” and deceitful, while others confidently expressed how it was “by far one of the most disgusting emails” they’ve ever heard about. “Poor kid, that parent is a psychopath,” sighed a Redditor.
While the Florida 6th-grade teacher didn’t leave any additional details or responses in the comments, he is probably going to think twice now whenever he sees another parent’s emails, even if the topic is concerning.
