Even now, ICE hasn’t stopped its raids on finding supposedly illegal immigrants, causing some to be weary of confrontation. When one Florida woman was suddenly struck by another driver in a parking lot, a mother with children, the driver was frantic over the thought of ICE showing up. Luckily, there are plenty of people with a sense of humanity. The same Florida woman that was involved shared her experience on TikTok.
“This just happened and I’m still shaking so please stick with me for just a minute,” Suzanne said at the start of her TikTok video. Suzanne was backing out of her parking space when, suddenly, a woman parked across from her also pulled out of her spot. Their vehicles collided in the lot. Suzanne jumped out of her car and saw the woman was also out of her vehicle and crying hysterically. Suzanne said the mother and her children in the backseat were physically fine but the woman was clearly incredibly upset.
According to Suzanne, she didn’t think the accident was a big deal. By all accounts, they were fine and their cars only had a tiny dent each. It was then the other mother said to Suzanne, “No policia, por favor!”
That’s when it all started to click. Suzanne asked the woman, “Are you undocumented?” The mother said no, “I have my green card,” but added she didn’t think that mattered anymore. She was so worried police and ICE would show up and take her kids away or take her away from them. When the mother realized that Suzanne wasn’t going to call the police and put her in that desperate position, she gave her the biggest hug.
Suzanne said the woman “sobbed” in relief. It also made her question why somebody with a green card should have to worry about being taken, anyway. Suzanne ends the video with, “This is Trump’s America. This is the America that we’re living in right now.”
“A green card means nothing now. Citizenship means nothing. No one is safe,” one commenter feared. You can see this now with Republican Rep. Randy Fine calling for Zohran Mamdani, the frontrunner in New York’s mayoral race, to be denaturalized.
“I have a green card too and I would be terrified to be taken away from my babies too. Thank you for not calling the police,” another said. You trade your insurance information and be on your way; Suzanne did the right thing!
