When you work in a healthcare environment, putting your patients first is always a top priority. Though we’ve all seen unfortunate videos circulating the internet featuring healthcare workers going too far, the internet has also shown us a caring and compassionate side to those who work in these careers. A video is now making rounds after a nurse in Florida livestreamed a med pass (or an administering of medications). People are rightfully outraged by this harmful situation that should never occur in a healthcare setting.
The video features a woman who goes by “Yazz Scott” streaming herself while doing a med pass. She is heard saying the name of a PT and states “healthcare girlie” as she distributes medications. People immediately started commenting on the live feed, telling her that she could lose her license. Yazz whispers to the screen, “Ain’t no patient information shown, ya’ll just relax.” She’s seen looking around to see if anybody notices her filming.
Another person commented on her livestream, “Don’t do this and waste all your hard work and talent for TikTok” to which she sighs and asks, “Why ya’ll keep doing that?” She also claims, “I’m just at work. Just chill.” Soon after, you hear Yazz say, “Oh, shoot” as somebody suggests she handed out the wrong medication.
Yazz confirms “It wasn’t the wrong medication, it was just a lidocaine patch,” further proving that an error was made. It is also vital to note that she opened the patch with her teeth, yes, her teeth.
In the middle of the med pass, she leaves for a private place to respond to commenters. She laughs as she says, “I’m just now reading some of these.” Afterwards, Yazz starts blocking anyone who tells her what she’s doing is wrong. While doing this, she states again and again that she’ll only lose her job if she shows patient information. She then goes back to her post and resumes talking about the CNAs that she works with.
According to comments from those who work in healthcare, Yazz is breaching patient confidentiality. It’s a direct violation of HIPAA. One person went on to say, “The reason why we are not allowed to record in certain situations involving Healthcare has nothing to do with hiding the truth, or lying to you. It has to do with the exact protection of our residents by law.”
Another commenter asked, “What is happening in healthcare right now?” to which another commenter replied, “It’s collapsing. People just haven’t noticed yet.” The commenter goes on to explain that they have worked in healthcare for decades. Apparently, they are “drowning” in healthcare environments. They go on to say, “It is an actual impossibility to find staff that meet even the bare minimum standards, and that’s after those standards have already been relaxed repeatedly over the years.”
One other person pointed out, “Getting tagged with a HIPAA violation is a hefty fine at the least. Something like this is showing a flagrant disregard for risk that could wind up with the person staring at some jail time though.”
Though it is not known currently if Yazz lost her license or received a fine for her poor med pass, this is a clear case of what not to do. Working through medical school just to throw it all away on a livestream is definitely not the way you want to end your career.
