A Florida resident received a message from one of their neighbors that wasnโt the friendly neighborhood message one might expect. The occupant was chastised for flying the Ukrainian flag instead of the American flag.ย
A Reddit user took to the platform to share a stack of photos revealing the message gotten from a neighbor. The post was titled, โGot a letter about my Ukrainian flags.โย
The occupant, who lives in Saint Petersburg, Tampa, Florida, received a letter on March 27 rebuking them for decorating their house with the Ukrainian flag. The letter read:
โDear occupant, many residents feel like youโre overdoing your display of another countryโs flag! Where is the AMERICAN flag you should be flying proudly!!โ
The victim also shared pictures of their front porch, in which a large Ukrainian flag was hanging by the side of the porch. The individual also hung little replicas of the flag along the top of the roof and used yellow and blue material to cover the windows, further representing the Ukrainian flag.ย Other users on social media reacted to the letter, saying that it was most likely a problematic elderly person who wrote it.ย
One person noted, โThis has boomer written all over it,โ and another agreed, โYup, you can tell by the handwriting.โ
Another wrote, “Also, this handwriting screams elderly personโฆ and the fact that they still donโt know how to do this or spell occupant. ๐โ
Other users responded hilariously, saying they would put up even more flags. โIโd put up 30 more Ukrainian flags,โ one wrote. โThe American flag is the least necessary to display. We know what country weโre in. I love the diversity!โ another said.
More Redditors advised the victim to put an American flag upside down to show that the country was clearly in distress.
This isnโt the first time the Ukrainian flag has caused quite the drama in America. Amidst the ongoing Russia- Ukraine war, many Americans have been divided, especially with Donald Trump’s administration having an unlikely allegiance with Russia. Some support Putinโs agenda, while others do not.ย
Earlier this month, we reported on an unidentified individual who vandalized a U.S./Ukraine flag draped on the Astor Place Cube, a famous NYC landmark. A Reddit video showed the person tearing it off and throwing it in a nearby trashcan, sparking reactions from online users.
Some rebuked the individual for tearing down the flag, while others didnโt.ย After the perpetrator had walked away, someone else hoisted it back up on the sculpture, draping it around the base of the cube.ย
