Calling the police during times of crisis should make you feel a little calmer because you know that help is on the way. On this matter, however, a Florida cop works exactly the opposite of what you’d think, shooting the homeowner in action. Training or no training, this is one big mistake.
In a video released by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the footage shows the bodycam of one of the cops responding to a home invasion call at 2600 block of Sheringham Road. One of the cops walks to the door, and a few seconds after the knock, the homeowner comes to answer. That’s where, out of nowhere, the cop with the body cam and his gun pointing at the door shoots a single bullet from his pistol.
The homeowner, a man in his 40s, is shot in the left leg while opening the door. Maybe the cop shooting the poor man thought the invaders were opening the door, but that raises two questions: 1. Why would a thief gently answer the door with cops behind them? And 2. Why did he shoot without even allowing the man to open the damn door? No matter how you cut it, this cop should be in trouble now.
However, the surprising part of the video is when the homeowner keeps yelling “stop it” and “you shot me” while the cop standing at the door answers “no, I did not.” Technically, he’s right. He didn’t shoot. But his partner did, and luckily enough, the homeowner shot by this Florida cop is a brave one, calmly walking outside with a bullet in his leg.
“You said come outside and then you shot me,” says the homeowner, once again proving the fault of the shooter. Now what’s interesting is when the cop tries to shake hands with the man while he’s obviously in pain. That’s what made some users make comments like “100% Cop had zero care that the dude was shot. Just needed to make it as clear as possible, without selling out his buddy, that he was NOT the one who shot him.” Or “That cop shot out of sheer panic because he got a surprise. What type of training do they actually get?”
Now while it’s obvious that the Florida cop who shot the homeowner has to face consequences, the calm attitude of the other one might not go with the “100% zero care” comment. Or as one user puts it, “While you may want him to cuss out the dumb a** officer who almost killed someone, calming the person down and getting him to safety was more important.”
According to the reports on the incident, the shooter cop, identified as Alexis Paul, has been relieved of law enforcement duty, and the homeowner is safe and released from the hospital with no fatal injuries.
