As usual, it’s been some turbulent times in Florida, especially with the whole airport conundrum. For those who might not know what we’re talking about, Governor Ron DeSantis approved renaming Palm Beach International Airport to include the President’s name. While this might be old news to some, the truth is that some people are outraged upon learning that renaming the Florida airport will be expensive. How expensive? Well, we’re talking about a $5.5 million cost, which is one of the most expensive renaming projects ever, that taxpayers will likely have to pay for.
The news about the $5.5 million cost was originally reported by The Independent, which said the figure comes from the state Senate’s funding request. As you can imagine, this is a cost that not many people expected, and, according to them, it borders on ridiculous and unnecessary.
The above report states that some of these costs will cover changing signs and logos, updating equipment and vehicle images, and changing pretty much everything related to the airport, including the website and uniforms.
As you can imagine, people are not happy about this, since they will end up paying for it, even if they didn’t agree to it from the start.
Florida Citizens Furious After Learning of the Airport Renaming Costs
Naturally, $5.5 million is a sum of money that would scare anyone, and while it is unclear whether the funding request has been approved, learning about the costs has been enough to enrage many citizens.
“How embarrassing. Foolish waste of money.”
“And $10m to change it back at some point, the gift that keeps taking.”
A few others think this might not be such a considerable “loss,” since the airport isn’t that big to begin with, so it might not have a significant impact.
“The funny part is his name is being plastered on a minor airport that nobody cares about. Glass half full.“
“It’s small and easy to get in and out of, and has decent direct flights to a lot of places. I hate this, but also feel like it’s temporary.”
In the end, we’ll all have to wait and see what actually happens with the airport renaming. Yet, as things stand, people are not on board with it. Furthermore, many think this is one of the most questionable things DeSantis has approved, and it is truly unnecessary for Florida and its citizens.
