We’ve all heard the age-old question: Why did the chicken cross the road? Well, we might never find it now since a Florida mother in a rush to get to her child’s daycare ran it over. That isn’t the whole story, though; 38-year-old Cynthia Sosa first spotted the chicken attempting to cross the intersection she was at and held up traffic to let it go by. The mother got impatient and sped past, killing the chicken. Enraged, Sosa chased the roadkill culprit down and ended up spraying the mother with bear spray to enact her revenge.
Law and Crime obtained a report from the Key West Police Department, which stated Sosa was “charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of burglary with assault or battery.” What went down was that Sosa pursued the mother as she drove away. Once the two vehicles had stopped, Sosa got out of her car and tried to open the other woman’s door. Things heated up, and Sosa sprayed the mother directly in the face to “teach her a lesson” before returning to her car and driving off. Fortunately, the child was not in the vehicle during the attack, so they weren’t affected. Later, police found where Sosa was and arrested her.
Some might think that bear-spraying someone for running over a random chicken might be rather extreme. However, many Redditors reacting to the story of Sosa’s revenge were on her side rather than the victim’s. “If someone is stopped like that, you AT LEAST don’t speed around them. If you pass them, do so cautiously, because you don’t know why they stopped,” remarked a commenter. “Not saying she was right, but….maybe the reckless driver learned that recklessness can have consequences, and not just for the chicken.”
Others chimed in, saying how they too agree that the mother should not have so carelessly sped past a car holding up other traffic without knowing what’s going on. “People act like you just stop in the road for the heck of it, and those often turn into dangerous drivers,” stated a Reddit user. Another recalled their own experience of someone almost getting run over because of impatient drivers: “I stopped for an elderly couple in a crosswalk, and someone behind me decided to zoom around me in the next lane and almost hit them.”
And of course, some commenters had to remark on the famous joke that’s likely on everyone’s minds. “Why was it crossing the road?” one person asked. “Now we’ll never know,” said a reply.
