President Donald Trump’s tariff policies have people up in arms, and in good reason. The most significant impact on all of us is that we’re expected to pay higher prices for the goods we need. That’s a significant loss that can result in a decline in purchasing power for many. A Florida woman is now making rounds on social media for speaking up about how the tariffs have impacted her in a huge way. However, viewers are feeling less than sorry for her.
Amanda Ivanelli (@aivanelli on TikTok) went viral in a video where she showed she was struck by an unexpected tariff bill to the tune of $1,243! She received the bill from FedEx for an ASOS order that she mostly returned. Worse yet, she wasn’t happy with all of her products and intended to return most of her order. She said, “I got my mail today, and I got this” while holding up a FedEx envelope. “And I open it, and I’m like, ‘it’s an invoice – for $1,243.”
Amanda said that she was never warned about the tariff charges she would incur when she made her purchase. Furthermore, she said she would only be keeping two dresses from her order, totaling around $150. As with many other consumers who have recently spoken up about being charged tariff bills on orders overseas, you would think the internet would have some sympathy. However, people did a little digging on Amanda and didn’t like what they found.
As it turns out, Amanda was listed on VotingRecords.com as a registered Republican, and it didn’t take long for commenters to figure this out. One commenter said of her situation, “This is just short-term suffering for long-term gains. You got this! That money pays for some tax breaks for billionaires. The children have already done their part by giving up SNAP and Medicaid, you can chip in $1,243.” Oof!
Another TikToker, @cashmonaychlo, went viral for a video she made in response to Amanda’s. Her caption reads, “Felt a lil bad for the influencer who got a $1,200 tariff invoice from an asos purchase until I read the comments and found out she’s registered red & voted for this.”
Though it is just an assumption that Amanda voted for Trump at this point, it does teach us a vital lesson. You do get what you vote for, so make sure that your vote counts.
