Criminals can sometimes be crafty with how they attempt to cover up their tracks, but very few would expect Mountain Dew to be a potential DNA remover. That said, a Florida woman has been recently sentenced to 35 years for the second-degree murder of her roommate. The murderer, Nichole Maks, was also charged with tampering with evidence. Police reported that she drenched herself in Mountain Dew to remove DNA traces from her body, the blood of her dead 79-year-old roommate.

Florida police found Maks a few hours after midnight, suspiciously walking about while covered in blood and holding a knife and hammer. According to Local 12, she claimed to have been homeless for years but knew the victim in question, her deceased elderly roommate. It goes without saying that the police didn’t buy her answers and took her in for questioning. During the interrogation, she asked for a can of Mountain Dew, but instead of drinking it, she proceeded to pour the soda all over herself until the officers restrained her.

It’s tragic that an elderly victim met a premature end to his life, but that hasn’t stopped commenters from having an absolute Baja Blast on this Mountain Dew crime. “If you can’t Dew the time…Then don’t Dew the crime,” two Reddit users quipped in response. “She was arrested with the murder weapons in hand. She did the Dew…but the Dew did nothing,” puns another commenter. “It didn’t Dew s***,” chimes in a third.

“What a moron. You’re supposed to use lemon juice,” jested the top comment. “No, lemon juice doesn’t get rid of DNA; it makes you invisible,” goofily replied another. “Irish Spring 5 in 1,” says a third, to which hundreds upvoted in laughter. For those who don’t get the reference, Irish Spring 5 in 1 became the “miracle cleaning solution for everything” at the  r/CleaningTips subreddit.

Two months ago, a woman used everything she could to remove stains from her bathtub, but to no avail. However, some Irish Spring 5 in 1 accidentally spilled and cleaned the stains, after which the shampoo became the ultimate cleaning solution on the subreddit. Unfortunately, the cold-blooded Florida woman didn’t have Irish Spring 5 in 1 on hand and instead had to opt for Mountain Dew. Instead, what it did ‘Dew’ was get her another charge added to her sentence.
