A Florida woman was stopped by Walmart employees after checking out over the alleged theft of a sweatshirt. The sweatshirt was hers, and she had bought it at Disney World, but even the tags wouldn’t make the workers stop in their accusations. She decided to walk out even when they threatened to call the police.
The Walmart controversy was shared online by Tiffany Nicole. She is a content creator who shares lifestyle content on TikTok and is a mother of three. The clip attached above garnered 224,300 views, 21,800 likes, and more than 850 comments in about a day.
The Florida woman explained that she had arrived at Walmart to get some bins. After picking her items, she arrived at the self-checkout and placed her sweatshirt next to her while scanning the bins. When she was about to pay, a Walmart employee asked her if she was also purchasing the piece of clothing.
“That really looks like one of our merchandise,” the worker said about Tiffany’s sweatshirt. A back-and-forth followed, during which a calm Tiffany told the worker that the sweatshirt was, in fact, hers. The worker, however, didn’t believe her, according to Tiffany, saying, “I’m really gonna have to call someone about this.”
Back Room Threats
Despite Tiffany explaining that she had bought the sweatshirt at Disney World and clearly had tags and Minnie Mouse printed on it, the worker went ahead and brought a manager.
“They need to take me to the back room so that they can type in whatever number they think is on [the] tag of my sweatshirt to verify that it’s not one of their items,” the Florida woman said.
Agitated, Tiffany didn’t want to entertain the accusations any longer. She grabbed her things and just left the store. The Walmart employee and manager screamed at her and even threatened to call the police, she said, later remembering she had bought the sweatshirt at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.
Social Media Reactions
The video sparked multiple responses, mostly from viewers who bashed the employees for refusing to listen to reason. One said, “Walmart employees are always on a power trip.” Another one commented, “Walmart literally acts like everyone is trying to steal the whole damn store these days.”
Others told Tiffany not to let this incident pass as merely an anecdote. One wrote, “File a complaint. They can’t accuse you out of the blue.” Some even proposed boycotting the store, with one saying, “Stop shopping at Walmart!!!“
After the brief but tense exchange, Tiffany said she waited in the parking lot in case police arrived. According to her, no officers ever showed up, and the incident ended there.
