For those who’ve rented over the years, you’ll likely have a bad story involving landlords. It’s either a landlord that fixes nothing or you’re getting charged too much. One woman in Florida shared a video focusing on the allegedly illegal things her apartment complex did. And now, the landlord Karen is retaliating against her because she decided to report them. If you’re going to rent apartments out, you should be following rules and regulation.

@saskaspeaks

they’re evicting me but not the roaches, termites, or rats 😔 (If you’re a lawyer that can practice in the state of Florida hmu) #fyp #eviction #lawsuit #evictionnotice #viral

Saska (@saskaspeaks on TikTok) shared her story about what happened when she reported her apartment building for what she deemed “illegal” actions. In the video, she laughs and dances with an eviction notice in her hand. The text reads, “My apartment filing an eviction after I reported them to the city, county, state, health department, the police department, the fire department, the better business bureau, the DBPR, & the news for illegally renting out apartments.” It sounds like Saska was quite busy taking care of business and her apartment complex is not happy about it.

So, what is going on at Saska’s apartment that led to the reports? According to her, there is an influx of roaches, termites, and rats. In another video, she comments back to somebody and tells them her windows don’t open. Not to mention mold growing in her shower due to lack of ventilation. She also said the roach issue is an absolute infestation and a health code violation. Even worse, she’s been unable to move. Apparently, trying to improve your living space, that which the landlord should be doing, is enough for an eviction notice.

Unfortunately for the apartment complex, this would be seen as retaliation. As a renter, she had every right to report the apartment complex for health code violations. It isn’t just her life in danger, but the entire complex, too. Now, Sashfa is asking viewers for help seeking a lawyer who is capable of taking her case. Personally, I hope she wins!

Commenters tried to help Saska with her situation is not at all unique. It’s common for slumlords to buy up property, then fail to upkeep. One person commented, “Per federal law that is considered retaliation,” in reference to the apartment’s eviction notice. They went on to explain, “I was evicted in retaliation for the exact same thing in Kalamazoo Michigan and since I had evidence of the place being neglected the judge told them not to charge me anything but November’s rent but they did anyway so I was able to get the eviction dismissed.”

There was some solid advice in Saska’s comment section but we hope the help of a good attorney can help her out. There’s nothing worse than doing the right thing and being crippled by it. Hopefully, there is indeed a light at the end of this tunnel for Saska, as well as her neighbors.
