Kamala Harris is set to receive a distinguished award following her exit from the White House. On Saturday, the NAACP and BET will honor the former Vice President with the Chairman’s Award at the 56th NAACP Image Awards. However, some fans wonder if Harris is deserving of the prestige.
Leon W. Russell, Chair of the NAACP National Board of Directors, announced the decision in a statement to Deadline. “Vice President Kamala Harris is more than a leader — she is a force of change, driven by an unwavering passion to shape a brighter, more equitable future,” he explained.
“It is with great honor that we present her with the Chairman’s Award at this year’s NAACP Image Awards, celebrating her relentless dedication to justice, equality, and the betterment of our society.”
Russell added that Harris’ legacy of “courage and compassion” and her “tireless advocacy” make her worthy. In the past, the Chairman’s Award has been given to Samuel L. Jackson, Tyler Perry, Barack Obama, and Amanda Gorman, among others. The award is usually given to individuals who “excel in public service and leverage their unique platforms to ignite and drive meaningful change.”
Kamala Harris undoubtedly has an extensive career in politics. Starting off as a deputy district attorney in Alameda, California, she rose through the ranks to make history with her election as vice president.
Kamala Harris ‘Vanished’ After Elections, Fans Lament

Harris became the first woman, Black American, and South Asian American, to achieve such a remarkable feat. In 2024, she took over from Joe Biden to become the Democratic Presidential candidate. As a result, she became the first Black and South Asian woman nominated for president by a major party.
Despite these significant feats, fans don’t think the politician deserves the Chairman’s Award. Their reason? Well, Harris lost to Donald Trump during the 2024 Presidential Elections.
“An award for losing? Very on brand,” slammed one fan.
“I voted for Harris. She vanished after the election and is nowhere in sight these days. Where is she??? We could use her voice, but I guess she and Doug are tired,” one fan lamented.
“In these times, the NAACP should give their awards to fighters, not people who flee to comfort after the first flurry,” another suggested.
“Lmaoooooooo for not getting a single vote in the Dem primary?” this user mocked.
Harris’ post-White House life has been drama-filled since she handed over on January 20. Earlier this week, her appearance at the Broadway production of A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical sparked concern. While delivering an inspirational message to the cast, Harris was caught in an apparent word salad. “When we think about these moments where we see things that are being taken, but also let’s see it as you know, nature abhors a vacuum,” she said in a clip on X.
Harris was mocked online for her display, with some accusing her of acting drunk. The former VP has yet to respond to the remarks.
