There are few games on the market these days that do a better job of weaving a mystery when it comes to their events the way Fortnite does. While players know that the Cattus event is going to be something big, just what it entails is still being guessed at on an almost hourly basis. Now a new theory has emerged positing Cattus could somehow be tied to the Apollo 11 moon landing.

As do most theories, this one popped up on Reddit on Monday. User PokeSanti03 realized that the Fortnite event is due to take place on July 20, the 50 year anniversary of the first time a man set foot on the moon. The user also pointed out that the background for the STW for the last few weeks.

While some users pointed to the ongoing use as a way to poke holes in the theory, it should be pointed out that Epic Games rarely does things “all at once.” It’s possible they rolled out that backdrop weeks in advance as an ongoing clue for what they plan on Saturday.

The day of the event marks 50 years of the arrival of man to the moon… The STW actual lobby is the moon.

There is also the little detail that the giant robot expected to be part of the upcoming Fortnite event has been gifted with a giant jet pack. This could be a hint he’ll be talking off into space. Maybe even landing on the moon?

Fortnite Intel also pointed out that Donald Mustard, the creative director for Fortnite, posted a tweet not that long ago talking about how important he finds it to “invest in space.” The rest of the tweet has more to do with colonizing than anything else, there’s very little doubt that the investment America made in the space program during the 1960’s paid off.

Invest in Space.

I hope so much to be alive to see us transition from a Type I civilization to a Type II civilization. We are on the cusp.

I think pretty great odds we make it to Type III.

One final piece of evidence that the Fortnite Cattus event could be tied to the moon landing comes from those warning signs and propaganda posters that have been popping up the last week or so. Originally thought to be some kind of callback to World War II, there was plenty of propaganda being tossed back and forth during the “Red Scare” of the 1950’s and 60’s. Our animous towards the USSR is one of the reasons the country found it so important to be the first to make a lunar landing.

What do you think of the latest Fortnite Cattus event theory? Could we be seeing the map take on a lunar look? Let us know in the comments below.
