Racist people are not exactly known for being logical or reasonable. Their beliefs often rely on a warped sense of entitlement, where they assume they have more right to a space than others, especially those who look or sound different from them. This kind of thinking was on full display in a video recently recorded at a Costco in Fountain Valley, California, where an ordinary shopping trip quickly turned into a disturbing public confrontation.
The video shows a man arguing with a woman who was filming him while pushing a shopping cart behind him at the Fountain Valley Costco. It is not entirely clear what initially triggered the dispute. From the footage alone, it appears that both parties were irritated, and at first the exchange resembled the kind of minor argument that can happen in crowded stores like Costco, where carts, long lines, and tight aisles often test people’s patience.
However, the situation escalated when the camerawoman’s friend accused the man of being racist. The man insisted that he had a reason for his behavior. He claimed that the two women had bumped into him with their shopping cart, and from there, the argument spiraled. Instead of addressing the specific incident, the man began calling the two women “invaders,” shifting the confrontation from a personal disagreement into a racially charged rant inside the Fountain Valley Costco.
He went on to accuse them of failing to assimilate into American culture. When one of the women pointed out that he seemed to be taking his anger out on random people, the man doubled down, arguing that “they’re all the same.” The women mocked this claim, pointing out that he was no different from them. In response, the Fountain Valley man insisted that his family had roots in the United States and demanded that they stop “twisting the narrative.” He argued that Americans did not owe immigrants anything.
At one point, another Costco customer approached from off-camera and asked what was going on. The women began explaining, saying that the man had randomly approached them and started ranting. Unfortunately, the video cuts off shortly afterward, leaving viewers without any further clarification or resolution.
Online, many viewers reacted with disbelief and humor, finding the man’s argument both ignorant and hypocritical. One user commented, “Haha, this idiot doesn’t realize his ‘founders’ were the invaders. What an ignorant piece of [expletive]. We need less of him in this world.” The comment reflects a broader point that many people made: American history clearly shows that the land was already inhabited by Indigenous peoples long before European settlers arrived. A basic understanding of history makes remarks like the man’s seem especially tasteless.
Others were quick to point out the irony of the situation at the Fountain Valley Costco. Despite expressing hostility toward immigrants, the man appeared to enjoy their cultures and food. As one user sarcastically noted, “While he’s buying Japanese food…” The image of a man railing against “invaders” while holding sushi in a Costco aisle became a symbol of the contradictions often found in racist thinking.
