Frankie Muniz’s role as the titular Malcolm Wilkerson in Malcolm in the Middle is regarded as one of the most prolific portrayals of youth on primetime television. Years later, the actor is still at the forefront of celebrity news for things like his involvement in Dancing With The Stars and being a racecar driver. Now, as a father, his perspective on acting has changed. In an interview with Pedestrian TV, Frankie Muniz explained why he would never let his child, Mauz Muniz, be a child actor.
Frankie Muniz Discusses Acting As a Child
Frankie Muniz discusses how his experience as an actor was positive while also highlighting the parts that aren’t as glamorous. He also goes into a bit of detail about how the industry itself is not very forgiving when it comes to children.
“… I know so many people, friends that were close to me, that had such insanely negative experiences and I just think it’s an ugly world in general.”
The conversation most likely stems from the latest Max documentary, Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kid’s TV. As a minor, Muniz starred alongside Amanda Bynes in Big Fat Liar, a film directed by Dan Schneider, whom the documentary was primarily about. The documentary briefly touches on the relationship between Schneider and Bynes, who ultimately resigned from acting after her final acting role in 2010 for various reasons.
Her journey since has provided evidence of what the longstanding effects of being a former child actor could accumulate to. While this doesn’t apply to every child actor, it makes sense for the actor and racecar driver to be wary. Muniz himself has acting credentials as recent as this year with his appearance on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! Australia. However, it looks like we won’t be seeing Mauz Muniz on the silver screen at all.
