Actor Mike Hagerty died at the age of 67 on April 29, 2022. The actor was known for his role as building superintendent Mr. Treeger on Friends and appearances on shows such as Cheers and The Wonder Years. Recently he was a series regular on the HBO comedy-drama series Somebody Somewhere. According to Deadline, Hagerty’s co-star Bridget Everett confirmed his death on Instagram, saying, “With great sadness, the family of Michael G. Hagerty announced his death yesterday in Los Angeles. A beloved character actor, his love of his hometown of Chicago and his family were the cornerstones of his life. … He will be sorely missed.” The cause of Hagerty’s death has not been disclosed.

While Hagerty appeared in many films, the character actor was known primarily for a wide array of TV appearances. Along with his memorable role on Friends, Hagerty also appeared on shows such as Boston Legal, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Community, CSI, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, ER, Ghost Whisperer, Glee, The Goldbergs, Grey’s Anatomy, Happy Endings, Medium, The Mindy Project, Mob City, Monk, Shameless, and The Wayans Bros. Hagerty was also on short-lived shows such as Fox’s The George Carlin Show and HBO’s Lucky Louie. He also had a memorable appearance on Seinfeld as a vintage clothing store owner. Hagerty’s death occurred the same month as Seinfeld actress Estelle Harris.
Somebody Somewhere was recently renewed for a second season. Hagerty’s death occurred just weeks before the show was set to continue production. HBO released a statement saying, “We are very saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Mike Hagerty. A member of the HBO family for many years, his most recent role as Bridget Everett’s father in Somebody Somewhere showed his special talent for bringing heart to a performance. Mike was a joy to work with and brought warmth and kindness to all who knew him. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.”
