What seems small to you might have the biggest impact for someone else. For example, showing up at family gatherings, no matter how small, just to reflect how much you love and care. One South Dakota woman united several people with one cause in mind: to be there for her boyfriend as he endured one of the most life-changing things he’s ever gone through. This group of loved ones truly showed their support in the most unique way and our hearts are feeling so full.
South Dakota woman Kiya—@kiyamclaurinn on TikTok—posted a video that hit me right in the feels. The video is captioned, “Reading my boyfriend’s favorite childhood book surrounded by all his best friends & family the night before major brain surgery will be something I never forget.” Who put these onions here? You see Kiya sitting in her boyfriend’s hospital bed and reading from Shel Silverstein’sThe Giving Tree. Her boyfriend’s look of peace as he cuddles up to stuffed animals and listens to the story tugs at the heart. Hey! Who put these onions here?
To make the special reading even sweeter, the video pans around the room and you can see multiple men sitting and listening intently while they support the man in his time of need. They are surrounded by family members and even a nurse who decided to join in and show support. Despite the sensitive nature, this is a room of nothing but good vibes and positive masculinity.
Viewers felt the warmth emanating from the video, too. One person said, “You could tell his boys were terrified but showed up anyway, wishing him the best recovery.” Another person pointed out, “The stuffed animals, fav children’s book & friends! We’re all still little kids at heart.”
Kiya had us collectively holding our breath, hoping that everything would go well with the surgery. Luckily, in an update, she posted, “Surgery = success,” and shows her boyfriend smiling with wrapping around his head. In a second post, she says, “Thank goodness that step is over,” and shows her boyfriend sleeping next to her at home. It’s nothing but rest and recovery from here. It seems like this is a supportive relationship built to last, and it warms my soul.
